La Latina, Madrid

Delic sits on Plaza de la Paja, one of La Latina's most charming small squares. The venue works as a cafe during the day, a brunch spot on weekends, and a cocktail bar in the evening. The terrace on the plaza is the main attraction, offering a peaceful setting surrounded by historic buildings and a small garden. Inside, the decor mixes vintage furniture with contemporary touches. The drink menu covers cocktails (EUR 8-10), wine (EUR 4-6), and beer (EUR 3-5). Brunch dishes run EUR 8-14. The cocktails are well-made for a cafe-bar, with the gin and tonic selection being particularly strong. As evening arrives, the terrace fills with a relaxed crowd: mostly locals in their thirties who live in the neighborhood. The energy stays conversational rather than party-focused. Delic doesn't try to be a nightlife destination. It's a neighborhood spot with good drinks that happens to sit on one of Madrid's prettiest squares. By midnight, things wind down quietly.

Full Review

Plaza de la Paja is one of those Madrid squares that feels like it belongs to a smaller city. Trees, a garden, a church on one side, old buildings on the others, and Delic's terrace anchoring one corner. The cafe has been there long enough to feel like part of the square's furniture.

Brunch is Delic's busiest moment. On a Sunday at noon, the terrace was full and a short queue had formed inside. The eggs benedict were good, the coffee was strong, and the juice was fresh. Prices were fair for the quality and setting. The crowd was local, the kind of people who live within walking distance and have made Sunday brunch at Delic a routine.

By evening, the atmosphere shifts. The brunch crowd departs and is replaced by couples and small groups ordering cocktails and wine. The gin and tonic menu lists several premium gins with suggested tonics and garnishes. A Gin Mare with Mediterranean tonic was well-presented and properly proportioned. The wine list is short but sensibly chosen.

Delic's charm is its restraint. It doesn't try to be a destination bar or a scene spot. It's a well-run neighborhood cafe-bar that benefits enormously from sitting on one of Madrid's most beautiful plazas. The experience is about the square as much as the venue itself.
