Nowy Swiat & Chmielna, Warsaw

Baroque brings ornate European glamour to ul. Chmielna 31, combining a craft cocktail program with an interior that looks like it was lifted from a Viennese opera house. Crystal chandeliers, velvet upholstery, gilded frames, and dark wood paneling set a tone that's unapologetically theatrical. The cocktail menu matches the ambition, with bartenders building drinks around house-made syrups, infusions, and premium spirits. On weekends after midnight, the back room transitions into a dance space with DJ sets playing deep house and funk. The crowd is Warsaw's dressy set: creative professionals, finance types out of the office, and couples on date nights.

An opulent cocktail bar that shifts into a low-key dance venue as the night progresses. Early evening is all about drinks and conversation in a beautifully designed room. Late night brings DJ sets and a livelier energy. The transition feels natural rather than forced.

Theatrical, warm, and slightly decadent. Feels like a secret you discovered.

Insider Tip

Start here before heading to clubs. The cocktails are strong and well-made, which makes Baroque an ideal first stop. Book a booth on weekends through their Instagram or website. The bartender's recommendations are usually better than random picks from the menu.

Full Review

Chmielna is a pedestrian street, and Baroque's entrance sits between cafes and shops that close by evening. Inside, the room opens up into a space that's been designed with serious attention to detail. The main bar area has high ceilings, ornate mirrors, and lighting calibrated to flatter. Seating ranges from bar stools to deep velvet booths that swallow you in.

The cocktail program is Warsaw's most ambitious in this price range. Bartenders work with seasonal ingredients, house infusions, and presentation that involves smoke, fire, or both. The theatricality extends to the drinks themselves. Execution is consistent, and the staff can talk you through the menu without being pretentious about it.

After midnight on weekends, the energy shifts. The back section opens for dancing, and a DJ takes over the sound system. The music stays on the sophisticated side: deep house, funk edits, and disco rather than peak-time bangers. The dance floor is small but the crowd commits.

Baroque works best as the first stop in an evening that might include Smolna or Jasna 1 later. Two cocktails here set the right mood. The prices are at the upper end for Warsaw but aren't unreasonable for the quality. Service is attentive, and the staff dress the part.

The Neighborhood

Baroque is on the pedestrian section of Chmielna, which connects Nowy Swiat to the west. The street is lined with other bars and restaurants, making it easy to wander and compare options before committing. Late-night food is available at several nearby spots.

Getting There

Walk from Nowy Swiat in two minutes. Both Centrum (M1) and Nowy Swiat-Uniwersytet (M2) metro stations are a five-minute walk. The pedestrian street means no car access, but Bolt drops you at either end of Chmielna.
