Tantalo Kitchen + Rooftop Bar
Tantalo Kitchen + Rooftop Bar operates from a restored colonial building on the corner of Calle 8 Este and Avenida B in the heart of Casco Viejo. The ground floor houses a restaurant serving Latin-fusion dishes. A mezzanine bar sits one level up. The rooftop terrace is the main draw, offering open-air views of the Pacific, the modern skyline, and the red-tile rooftops of the old town. DJs play house, electronic, and Latin beats on Friday and Saturday nights, turning the rooftop into a dance floor by midnight. The venue opened in 2012 inside what was then a freshly renovated building, and it has since become the default starting point for a night in Casco Viejo. Expect to pay USD 12-16 for cocktails and USD 5-7 for beer. The restaurant menu runs USD 15-25 per entree.
What to Expect
Early evening feels like a restaurant terrace with views and cocktails. By 10 PM the rooftop shifts into bar mode. After midnight on weekends, the DJ turns it up and the space becomes a proper dance floor. The crowd is international, well-dressed, and skews 25-40. The energy builds gradually and peaks around 1 AM.
Cinematic. The rooftop views, colonial backdrop, and warm tropical air create something genuinely special. It's not pretentious, but it's not cheap either.
House, electronic, Latin house, and reggaeton on weekends. Background music during dinner hours.
Smart casual minimum. Collared shirts for men, closed shoes. No sandals or beachwear. The rooftop crowd dresses up on weekends.
Groups wanting a versatile venue that works for dinner, drinks, and dancing all in one spot. Strong date option for the restaurant-to-rooftop progression.

Insider Tip
Arrive by 8 PM on weekends to get a rooftop spot without waiting. The ground-floor restaurant takes reservations, but the rooftop is first-come, first-served. The mezzanine bar is the least crowded option if you just want a drink.
Full Review
The ground floor entrance on Calle 8 Este doesn't give away how much is happening upstairs. The restaurant level is tastefully done with local art on the walls and a menu that blends Panamanian ingredients with international techniques. The ceviche is reliable, and the cocktails from the ground-floor bar are well-made if you don't want to trek upstairs.
The mezzanine bar is the overlooked sweet spot. It's smaller, quieter, and the bartenders have more time for you. If the rooftop is packed, this is where to wait it out with a drink.
The rooftop is the star. Low walls let you see the Bay of Panama, the glowing towers of the banking district, and the cathedral domes of Casco Viejo at the same time. On clear nights the view alone justifies the prices. Tables line the edges, a bar occupies one corner, and the center opens up as a dance floor once the DJ starts. Weekend nights get crowded by 11 PM, and the one-in-one-out policy at the stairs means a wait is possible.
The crowd is a genuine mix: Panamanian professionals, Colombian visitors, European tourists, American expats. People actually dance here, and the music selection stays smart rather than defaulting to top-40 reggaeton all night. Service slows when the rooftop fills, so order two drinks at once during peak hours. The bathrooms are downstairs, which means losing your spot if you're on the roof.
Weekday visits are calmer and let you appreciate the space without competing for a railing spot. Tuesday and Wednesday are the quietest. Thursday starts to pick up.
The Neighborhood
Tantalo sits at the center of Casco Viejo's bar circuit. Pedro Mandinga's rum bar is a two-minute walk away. Casa Casco is around the corner. The strip of restaurants along Avenida B and Calle 5 keeps the surrounding blocks active until midnight. Late-night food options in the area are limited; most kitchens close by 11 PM.
Getting There
Uber from the banking district or Calle Uruguay takes 10-15 minutes and costs USD 4-7. From the Amador Causeway, expect a 10-minute ride. The venue has no dedicated parking, and street parking in Casco Viejo is extremely limited. Uber is the only practical option for nighttime visits.
