Menada
Menada occupies a restored Ottoman courtyard in the heart of Skopje's Old Bazaar, roughly 200 meters north of the Stone Bridge. The venue seats about 80 people across its outdoor courtyard and a smaller stone-walled interior. The courtyard is the main draw, with tables arranged around a central space shaded by mature trees. The bar runs along the interior wall, staffed by bartenders who take genuine pride in their craft cocktail menu. The crowd is a mix of local professionals, university students, and the small but steady expat community. Menada has built its reputation on consistency: the drinks are well-made, the music stays at conversation level, and the atmosphere is relaxed without being sleepy. Summer evenings fill the courtyard by 9 PM, and finding a table after 10 PM on weekends requires either luck or an early arrival.
What to Expect
Walking through the narrow bazaar street, you'll spot Menada's courtyard through an arched stone entrance. The space opens up into a tree-shaded patio with low lighting and the hum of conversation. The bar is visible through the courtyard archway, and the bartender will wave you toward any open seat.
Relaxed, warm, and genuinely social. The courtyard setting creates natural conversation between tables.
Ambient electronic, jazz, and downtempo. Live acoustic sets on occasional Thursday evenings.
Casual. The Old Bazaar crowd doesn't dress up. Clean jeans, a decent shirt, and comfortable shoes for cobblestones.
Couples, small groups, and solo travelers looking for a relaxed starting point in the Old Bazaar.
Cash preferred (Macedonian denar). Cards accepted but the machine is sometimes temperamental.

Full Review
Menada is the kind of bar that makes you wish every city had an Ottoman bazaar to build in. The courtyard is the centerpiece, a stone-walled outdoor space that feels private despite being steps from the bazaar's pedestrian traffic. Mature trees provide shade during the day and a canopy effect at night when string lights take over. The tables are well-spaced, giving each group a sense of privacy without feeling isolated.
The cocktail menu runs about 15 options, mostly riffs on classics using local ingredients. A basil and cucumber gin drink uses herbs from the owner's garden, and the rakija sour manages to make North Macedonia's national spirit approachable for newcomers. Beer selection includes Skopsko, the local lager, alongside a few imported options. Wine by the glass features Tikves and other Macedonian producers at prices that would be unthinkable in Western Europe.
The crowd shifts through the evening. Early arrivals tend to be couples and after-work groups settling in for a long evening. By 10 PM, the university contingent arrives, and the energy picks up without tipping into rowdiness. The bartenders know their regulars and make newcomers feel welcome. Solo travelers who sit at the bar counter will find conversation easily.
Service is attentive without hovering. The wait staff checks in periodically but lets tables set their own pace. This is not a place for quick drinks before moving on; it's designed for settling in. The interior, with its original stone walls and wooden beams, serves as a winter refuge and a cool retreat on Skopje's notoriously hot summer days. Sound levels stay reasonable throughout, making this one of the few Old Bazaar bars where you can actually hear the person across the table.
The Neighborhood
Menada sits on one of the Old Bazaar's main pedestrian streets, surrounded by traditional craft shops, Ottoman-era restaurants, and a few other bars. The Mustafa Pasha Mosque is visible from the courtyard entrance. The surrounding area is safe, well-lit, and populated on nightlife evenings.
Getting There
Walk across the Stone Bridge from Macedonia Square (5 minutes), then continue straight into the Old Bazaar for about 200 meters. Menada is on the right side, marked by a small sign at the courtyard entrance. Taxis can drop you at the bazaar entrance near the Daut Pasha Hammam.
