Hivernage, Marrakech

Sky Bar sits on the rooftop of the Renaissance Hotel on Avenue Echouhada in Hivernage. The terrace offers panoramic views across Marrakech's low skyline to the Atlas Mountains to the south. The bar serves cocktails (100-170 MAD / 9.25-15.75 EUR / 10-17 USD), wine (80-130 MAD / 7.40-12 EUR / 8-13 USD), and beer (50-70 MAD / 4.60-6.50 EUR / 5-7 USD). A hookah menu is available. Light food options include tapas plates and sushi at 80-150 MAD. DJ sets play on Thursday through Saturday evenings, starting around 8 PM and continuing until midnight or 1 AM. The atmosphere is lounge-oriented rather than club-oriented. It's a pre-club venue or a standalone evening option for people who prefer atmosphere to loud music.

What to Expect

An elevator ride to the rooftop, and then the view hits. Marrakech spreads flat in every direction with the Koutoubia minaret visible to the east and the Atlas range framing the southern horizon. The bar wraps around the terrace with lounge seating, high tables, and a DJ booth. The atmosphere is relaxed and conversational. The music adds texture without demanding attention.

Atmosphere

Serene, panoramic, and romantic. The view does 80% of the work. The bar does the rest.

Music

Lounge, chill house, and deep house. The DJ sets are mood music, not dance music.

Dress Code

Smart casual. The Renaissance Hotel lobby sets the tone. Clean jeans work. The crowd dresses up slightly on weekends but this isn't Theatro-level formality.

Best For

Sunset drinks. Couples. Photographers. Anyone who wants to see Marrakech from above before deciding where to go next.

Payment

Cards and cash accepted. Hotel guests can charge to their room.

Insider Tip

Come for sunset. The Atlas Mountain views at golden hour are genuinely spectacular. The best tables are along the southern railing. Arrive by 6:30 PM on weekends to secure one. The hookah is good here. After 10 PM the energy fades as the club-bound crowd departs for Theatro or So Lounge. This is best as a 7-to-10 PM venue.

Full Review

Sky Bar's entire value proposition fits in one sentence: you're drinking a cocktail on a rooftop with a view of the Atlas Mountains. If that appeals to you, come. If it doesn't, this venue has nothing else to offer that you can't get at ground level for less money.

The view is legitimately impressive. Marrakech is a flat city, which means anything elevated reveals the full panorama: the Koutoubia Mosque's minaret, the medina walls, the Hivernage hotel compounds, and beyond them the foothills rising to the High Atlas peaks. At sunset, the mountains turn pink and orange. The effect is worth the price of a cocktail.

The bar itself is well-designed for its purpose. Comfortable seating is arranged to maximize view angles. The railing tables are the prime spots and they go first. The lounge seating toward the center works for groups. The DJ booth is positioned to provide sound without blocking sightlines.

The cocktail program is decent. The bartenders execute standard cocktails competently and have a few house specials that incorporate Moroccan ingredients (argan, orange blossom, dates). Pricing is hotel-bar premium but not outrageous by international standards. The wine list is short and workable.

The limitation is time-dependent. Sky Bar peaks between 6:30 and 9:30 PM. The sunset window is the magic hour. After sunset, the view becomes city lights, which is pleasant but less dramatic. By 10 PM, the crowd thins as people move to clubs. By midnight, the venue often has more staff than guests.

This is a first-drink-of-the-evening venue, and it excels at that. Planning a full evening here leads to diminishing returns after the third hour.

The Renaissance Hotel lobby, which you pass through to reach the elevator, is clean and modern. The staff are helpful and the hotel's general infrastructure (bathrooms, seating, etc.) meets international standards.
