Smokehouse
Smokehouse combines a craft beer bar with a smoked meat restaurant in an industrial-style space on Strada Puskin. The interior features exposed brick, metal ductwork, and reclaimed wood furniture that creates an aesthetic more common in Portland or Berlin than in Chisinau. The bar offers a rotating selection of craft beers, including Moldovan microbrews that are part of the country's small but growing craft beer scene, alongside imports from Romania, Belgium, and Germany. The food menu centers on smoked meats: brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausages prepared in an in-house smoker. The crowd is young professional, typically 25-40, and the venue functions as both an after-work destination and a dinner spot. Weekend evenings bring a livelier atmosphere, with the bar area staying busy until late.

Full Review
Smokehouse represents the side of Chisinau that surprises visitors who arrive expecting only Soviet-era gray. The venue is genuinely good, with a craft beer selection and food quality that would hold up in any European city, at prices that make those cities seem absurd by comparison.
The beer program is the standout. Moldova's craft beer scene barely existed five years ago, but a handful of microbreweries have started producing beers that deserve attention. Smokehouse showcases these alongside reliable European imports, creating a tap list that rewards exploration. The bartenders know their beers and can guide you through the options.
The food is the secondary draw and almost steals the show. The in-house smoker produces brisket with a proper bark and smoke ring, pulled pork that's actually tender, and ribs with enough meat to justify the effort. The sides are thoughtful too, moving beyond coleslaw into territory that shows genuine kitchen creativity.
As a bar experience, Smokehouse works best in the early-to-mid evening. The after-work crowd generates a convivial atmosphere, and the combination of good beer and good food creates a natural social setting. Later in the evening, the crowd thins as people move to the clubs, and the venue doesn't try to compete with that scene.
The industrial aesthetic is well-executed but feels slightly imported, as if the designers studied Brooklyn beer halls and replicated the formula. This isn't a criticism so much as an observation: Smokehouse works despite not being particularly Moldovan, because the quality of the beer and food transcends the setting.
