Full Review

Finding Xaman Bar requires some effort. The entrance is an unmarked gated door on a side street off Paseo de la Reforma, and the bar itself sits in a basement reached by a narrow staircase. Once you're down, the room opens into a tiki-influenced space with carved wood, dim lighting, tropical plants, and a bar that wraps around the centre. The low ceiling and underground location create an enclosed, escapist atmosphere that works with the tropical theme.

The bartenders here take their craft seriously. Cocktails arrive in elaborate vessels, sometimes ceramic tikis, sometimes hollowed-out fruit, and the recipes draw on Mexican spirits alongside the rum-heavy tiki tradition. The crowd is small by design since the room holds maybe forty people. Conversation stays at a murmur, and the DJ plays eclectic sets at a volume that supports rather than overwhelms the space. It's a talking bar that happens to look like a Polynesian basement.

Xaman fits into Mexico City's growing speakeasy and hidden-bar scene alongside Hanky Panky, Licoreria Limantour's back room, and others. What distinguishes it is the tiki concept, which is rare in a city dominated by mezcal bars and cantinas. The drinks are priced at MXN 200-400, which is high but justified by the quality and presentation. The experience is more about discovery than volume.

The unmarked entrance means you'll need the address in advance. Reservations help but aren't always required on weeknights. The staircase is steep, so keep that in mind. Once inside, the atmosphere rewards a slow evening; this isn't a place to rush through. Two or three cocktails over a couple of hours is the right pace.

The Neighborhood

The side streets off Paseo de la Reforma near Zona Rosa hide several concept bars and restaurants behind unmarked doors. Xaman Bar joins this tradition of discovery-based drinking, drawing a curious crowd willing to search for something different from the area's more visible venues.

Getting There

Metro Insurgentes on Line 1 is the closest major station. The exact address is best confirmed through the bar's social media or by asking locally. Uber drops off easily on Paseo de la Reforma, from which it's a short walk.
