Le Rossini
Le Rossini positions itself as Analakely's upscale option, operating from a restored building on Rue Rainibetsimisaraka, one block off the main avenue. The interior is polished by Antananarivo standards: wooden floors, white tablecloths, proper glassware, and wall sconces that provide warm lighting. The bar runs along the back wall, stocked with French wines, imported spirits, and the ingredients for a cocktail list that attempts international standards. Seating for about 50 people is split between the main dining room and a smaller lounge area with sofas and low tables. The kitchen serves French-Malagasy fusion: zebu steaks with pepper sauce, duck confit with local spices, and seafood from the coast. The wine list is the most extensive in Tana, leaning heavily on French bottles with some South African options. The clientele is the French expat community, senior Malagasy professionals, and the occasional embassy crowd.
What to Expect
The closest thing Antananarivo has to an upscale dining and drinks venue. The interior is clean, the service is attentive, and the menu is serious. The atmosphere is more restaurant than bar, transitioning to lounge mode after the kitchen closes.
Refined and French-influenced. A pocket of sophistication in a city that rarely attempts it.
French jazz and bossa nova at background volume. Live pianist on select Friday evenings.
Smart casual. Collared shirts and closed shoes for men. This is one of the few Tana venues where dress matters.
Dinner and drinks for couples, business entertaining, French wine enthusiasts, anyone wanting a refined evening in Tana
Credit cards accepted (Visa, Mastercard). Cash in Ariary also works. The only venue in Analakely where cards are reliable.

Insider Tip
Reserve for dinner on Friday or Saturday; the dining room fills. The zebu steak with green pepper sauce is the signature dish. The French wines by the glass are the best value on the drinks menu. The lounge area works better for after-dinner drinks than the dining room.
Full Review
Le Rossini exists in a different category from the rest of Analakely's nightlife. While the surrounding venues serve cold beer in plastic chairs, Le Rossini offers white tablecloths, wine lists, and a kitchen that takes food seriously. The gap between this and its neighbors is wider than you'd expect.
The food earns the prices. The zebu steak is excellent: locally sourced beef with a preparation that reflects French technique and Malagasy ingredients. The duck confit is reliable. The seafood options change based on what arrives from the coast. The portions are generous without being excessive.
The wine list is the best in Tana, which admittedly isn't a high bar. French bottles dominate, with a selection that covers major regions at prices that would be competitive in Paris. By-the-glass options rotate and are worth asking about.
The cocktails are competent. The bartender makes a good daiquiri and a serviceable Negroni. Don't expect molecular gastronomy, but do expect properly measured drinks with quality spirits.
As a nightlife venue, Le Rossini works best as a dinner destination that extends into post-dinner drinks. The lounge area provides a comfortable space to settle in with cognac or a final glass of wine. It's not a dancing venue, and closing at midnight means it serves the first half of the evening rather than the late shift.
