Engine Room
Engine Room brings a cocktail bar experience to Kuta's predominantly beer-and-shots scene. The industrial-themed space serves creative cocktails using Indonesian ingredients (palm sugar, local spices, tropical fruits) alongside a food menu. It's the best drinks in Kuta, which admittedly isn't the highest bar in Bali's cocktail scene, but the effort and quality are genuine.

Full Review
Engine Room brings cocktail-bar ambitions to a stretch of Kuta better known for beer buckets and shots. The industrial-themed interior is deliberate and well-executed: exposed fixtures, metalwork details, and a bar setup that signals serious intent. The cocktail menu uses Indonesian ingredients like palm sugar, local spices, and tropical fruits, which lifts the drinks above the Kuta baseline by a considerable margin.
The crowd is smaller and more discerning than the party bars nearby. People come here for the drinks rather than the scene, which creates a different energy entirely. The food menu is competent and pairs well with the cocktails. Service is attentive and knowledgeable; the bartenders can discuss what they're making and why. Evenings are relaxed, running at a pace that allows conversation and appreciation.
In Kuta's landscape, Engine Room is an outlier. It would fit comfortably in Seminyak's cocktail bar scene, but its Kuta location gives it a different function: it's the refuge for people staying in the area who want a genuinely good drink without relocating to another neighborhood. The quality gap between what's served here and what's poured at the party bars is significant.
Try the Indonesian-ingredient cocktails specifically; they're the reason to come. The food menu is worth ordering from. Noon to midnight hours make it a viable daytime option as well.

Sitting within Kuta's party strip, Engine Room represents the arrival of craft cocktail culture in an area historically dominated by budget drinking. It caters to a segment of the Kuta market that the louder venues deliberately ignore.
