Bar Oppenheimer
Bar Oppenheimer sits on Oppenheimer Strasse, a quieter residential street that runs off the main Sachsenhausen bar zone toward the southeast. It's a late-night bar that operates on the assumption that you've already had your cider and now want something different. The interior is compact and dimly lit, with a short cocktail list, good draft beer selection, and a crowd that starts arriving after 21:00 on most evenings. It fills up quickly on weekends as the Schweizer Platz and Textorstrasse venues push people outward looking for somewhere that isn't elbow-to-elbow. Bar Oppenheimer is not trying to be a destination; it's a functional, comfortable bar in a neighborhood that needs more of them after midnight.

Insider Tip
This is a post-dinner and post-cider-tavern bar rather than a first stop. Arrive after 21:30 to find the crowd at its most interesting. The cocktail list is short but competently made; ask what they're doing well that evening rather than ordering off the menu.
Full Review
Bar Oppenheimer doesn't make itself easy to find, which is part of the point. Oppenheimer Strasse isn't one of the streets that appears on Sachsenhausen bar maps, and the venue has no aggressive signage or marketing. You find it because you live in the neighborhood, or because someone who does told you about it.
The bar serves a genuinely useful function in Sachsenhausen: it's open late, it makes decent cocktails, and it doesn't require you to shout over the noise of a full cider tavern. The crowd that ends up here is self-selected for people who knew where they were going or followed someone who did. This filters out the noisiest tourist groups while keeping the place busy enough to be social.
The cocktail list is short by design. Four or five classics done properly, two or three seasonal options, and the bartender's willingness to improvise if you tell them what you're in the mood for. The draft beer selection rotates through German and European craft options without fetishizing the category.
For someone doing a Sachsenhausen evening properly, Bar Oppenheimer is the final stop: cider at Wagner or Atschel, food at Adolf Wagner, and then here for a cocktail or two until whatever hour you're comfortable with. The walk from Schweizer Platz is five minutes and worth it.
The Neighborhood
Off the main tourist circuit in Sachsenhausen, closer to the residential southern end of the district. Textorstrasse is a 3-minute walk for a broader late-night bar selection. The Main riverbank is about 10 minutes walk north.
Getting There
U-Bahn U1/U2/U3/U8 to Schweizer Platz. Walk south on Schweizer Strasse, then turn right onto Oppenheimer Strasse. Bar Oppenheimer is about 5 minutes walk from the station. Alternatively, bus 36 stops nearby.

Other Venues in Sachsenhausen

Apfelwein Wagner
One of Frankfurt's most recognizable cider taverns, with a wood-paneled interior and communal benches. The Wagner family has operated here since 1931 and the Bembel never stops moving.

Adolf Wagner
Traditional Apfelwein tavern and restaurant with an extensive hot food menu alongside house-pressed cider. Often cited as the most authentic of the Schweizer Strasse institutions.

Atschel
Compact old-school cider bar on Wallstrasse with a loyal neighborhood following and minimal tourist overhead. The cider is dispensed from ceramic Bembeln and conversation tends to get loud by 21:00.

Daheim im Lorsbacher Thal
A relaxed Apfelwein garden and pub with outdoor seating that fills up fast in summer. The house cider is produced by the Possmann brand and served at a price that won't shock you.

Apfelwein Solzer
Family-run cider tavern that has operated in Sachsenhausen for generations. Quieter than Wagner on most nights, with a mix of regulars and first-timers exploring the quarter.

Fichtekränzi
The fir-wreath sign above the door signals it's an Apfelwein establishment, a centuries-old Frankfurt tradition. Rustic interiors, long communal tables, and food that pairs well with several rounds of cider.
