Apfelwein Solzer
Apfelwein Solzer is a family-run Sachsenhausen cider tavern that operates with less tourist visibility than the Schweizer Strasse establishments. The venue is smaller than Wagner or Adolf Wagner, with seating for roughly 50 inside and a modest street terrace when the weather allows. The cider is house-pressed, which distinguishes it from the Possmann-sourcing establishments nearby, and the menu covers the expected Frankfurt classics with particular attention to seasonal ingredients. Solzer has been operated by the same family for decades and the atmosphere reflects that continuity: regulars are recognizable, the service is familiar with the local crowd, and the pace on a Tuesday evening is genuinely unhurried. Weekend evenings are busier than weekdays but rarely reach the saturation of the more prominent taverns.

Insider Tip
Ask what the seasonal special is before ordering from the main menu. The kitchen at Solzer adjusts more than most cider taverns and the specials are usually the best thing they're doing that week. If you want house-pressed cider rather than commercial, Solzer and Adolf Wagner are your two main options in the neighborhood.
Full Review
Apfelwein Solzer is the kind of venue that benefits from not being the obvious choice. It sits slightly off the main tourist current in Sachsenhausen, which means that on most evenings the room is a mix of locals and visitors who found it through a recommendation rather than a guidebook. The result is a more balanced atmosphere than the heavily visited Schweizer Strasse establishments.
The house-pressed cider is the genuine distinction. Where Possmann-sourcing venues serve a consistent commercial product, Solzer's cider varies slightly by season and pressing. The apple varieties used change with what's available, which means the character of the drink isn't exactly the same in April as it is in October. Cider enthusiasts notice this. People who just want a good glass of Apfelwein are also satisfied.
The kitchen operates on a genuine seasonal rotation, which is more effort than most cider taverns invest. Whatever the seasonal special is on a given week is usually the highest-quality thing the kitchen produces. The standard Frankfurt dishes, Handkäs, Schnitzel, Grüne Soße, are all present and properly executed without being exceptional.
The room is too small for large groups without a booking. Four people can generally find space without much difficulty on weeknights. Eight people on a Saturday evening needs a phone call in advance.
The Neighborhood
Located slightly northeast of the main Schweizer Strasse axis, making it a natural stop if you're walking from Konstablerwache or Bornheim direction rather than coming from the city center.
Getting There
Note: the address listed references the Berger Strasse area, which is actually in Bornheim. Solzer's Sachsenhausen location is best reached via U-Bahn to Schweizer Platz and then a 10-minute walk. Confirm the current address before visiting.
