The kitchen executes Dominican standards without compromise. The rice and beans that arrive with every plate are cooked with care, not dumped from a steam table. The grilled fish is fresh and simple, dressed with lime and served with tostones. The comida criolla lunch special offers quantity and quality at a price that would buy you a single beer at Jellyfish Beach Club.
The bar side of Sip Sip is a secondary consideration for most visitors. The rum drinks are honest and cold, and the Presidente arrives properly chilled. There's no cocktail menu beyond mojitos and rum punches, and the bartender makes them without any particular flourish.
As a place to understand what Punta Cana looks like from inside rather than from a resort sun lounger, Sip Sip is valuable. As a nightlife venue, it's a starting point at best.
