Jellyfish Restaurant and Beach Club

Bavaro, Punta Cana

Jellyfish Restaurant and Beach Club occupies a prime beachfront position on the Los Corales strip, with a large open terrace that extends almost to the waterline. Tables are arranged on white decking under palm-thatched shade structures, and a permanent DJ booth sits at the back of the terrace facing the ocean. The venue operates as a full-service restaurant during the day, transitioning to a cocktail bar and open-air club experience from sunset onward. Capacity runs to around 200 covers at full tables; the DJ area at the back holds a standing crowd of another hundred or so on busy weekend nights. The clientele is international, drawing both European tourists from nearby rental properties and all-inclusive guests who've come off their resorts for a more relaxed outdoor setting. The ocean view, consistent cocktail quality, and live DJ programming from Thursday to Sunday make it the most reliable upscale beach bar option in the immediate Bavaro area.

Where to stay near Jellyfish Restaurant and Beach Club

Hotels close to Bavaro, Punta Cana.

What to Expect

An open ocean-facing terrace with white furniture, ambient lighting, and a sound system that carries the DJ set to the whole terrace without overpowering conversation at the tables. The beach is directly accessible from the terrace. The vibe is upscale beach bar, not club.

Atmosphere

Relaxed, romantic at dinner, progressively livelier from 9 PM on DJ nights. The ocean backdrop and open sky make it feel less enclosed than other venues on the strip.

Music

Deep house, tropical house, and Latin chill on Thursday evenings; commercial Latin pop and reggaeton on Friday and Saturday nights.

Dress Code

Beach casual. Swimwear with a cover-up is fine for day use. Evening hours see a step up to resort casual: sundresses, linen shirts. No dress code enforcement.

Best For

Couples, mixed groups, and anyone who wants a quality cocktail with an ocean view without the full show-club production.

Payment

Cash (DOP and USD) and major credit cards. USD accepted at a slightly unfavorable rate; paying in DOP gives better value.

Price Range

Cocktails 450-650 DOP. Beer 250-300 DOP. Full dinner mains 900-1,600 DOP. DJ nights have no cover charge.

Cocktails ~USD 8-11, beer ~USD 4-5, dinner mains ~USD 15-27

Hours

Daily 11 AM to midnight. DJ nights Thursday to Sunday from 8 PM.

Insider Tip

Arrive by 7 PM on Friday and Saturday to get a table facing the ocean before the main crowd arrives. The kitchen serves until 10 PM, so dinner and late drinks in one visit is possible. The mojitos are consistently good; the rum punches are oversweetened. Ask for the daily catch for the best-value fresh fish option.

Full Review

Jellyfish earns its position as the best upscale beach bar in Bavaro through consistent quality rather than novelty. The setting does the heavy lifting: white decking, thatched shade structures, the sound of waves, and a view of the ocean at night that no amount of interior design can replicate. On a Friday evening with a clear sky, it's genuinely attractive.

The food is more reliable than at most Bavaro beach restaurants. Grilled fish is the right choice here; the lobster and seafood platters are fresh and properly priced at 1,500-2,500 DOP rather than the tourist-markup versions found at some El Cortecito spots. The kitchen doesn't rush, which means dinner at Jellyfish takes time. Plan for 90 minutes if eating a full meal.

The transition from restaurant to bar happens gradually from around 8 PM. The DJ takes the booth, the lighting shifts from warm white to a color mix, and tables transition from occupied by diners to populated by drinkers. By 10 PM on Friday and Saturday, the standing area near the DJ booth is active and the terrace has a light club energy without tipping into full nightclub mode.

Service is attentive by Bavaro standards. Staff rotate through tables regularly, drink orders are filled quickly at the main bar, and the pricing is clearly menu-stated without the surprise upcharging that happens at some resort-strip venues.

For a well-run, oceanfront evening with reliable cocktails and the option of a good meal, Jellyfish is the strongest single recommendation in the Bavaro area.

The Neighborhood

Located on the Los Corales beach strip, south of El Cortecito's main commercial cluster. The surrounding area has other beach bars and rental properties. Walking north along the beach from Jellyfish reaches El Cortecito in about 15 minutes.

Getting There

From El Cortecito, walk south along the beach or take the road parallel to the coast. By taxi from the main Bavaro resort area, 500-700 DOP and 10-15 minutes.
