HUSET-KBH
HUSET-KBH at Radhusstraede 13 is technically in the city center rather than Norrebro, but its DIY spirit and programming align closely with Norrebro's cultural scene. The building has operated as a cultural center since 1970, making it one of Copenhagen's oldest independent venues. Five floors house different activities: a basement concert venue holding about 200 people, a board game cafe, a cinema, a comedy stage, and a cafe/bar. The concert venue, called Musikcaféen, hosts 3-5 shows per week with an eclectic booking policy similar to Stengade's, covering punk, indie, jazz, electronic, and world music. HUSET operates as a non-profit cultural organization, which keeps ticket prices low and programming adventurous. The building's age shows in the best way: creaky staircases, rooms that have been painted and repainted dozens of times, and an institutional informality that chain venues can't replicate.
What to Expect
A rambling old building where each floor offers something different. The basement concert venue is intimate and bare-bones. The cafe is relaxed and affordable. The overall feeling is of a community center that happens to have a bar and a stage, which is exactly what it is.
Community-driven, eclectic, and warmly institutional. HUSET feels like it belongs to everyone who walks in.
In the concert venue: everything from punk to jazz to electronic to folk. The booking is fearlessly eclectic.
Absolutely anything. HUSET's crowd ranges from retirees at the cinema to teenagers at concerts.
Eclectic cultural experiences, affordable live music, board game enthusiasts, anyone who appreciates non-profit cultural spaces.
Card and cash accepted throughout the building.

Full Review
HUSET-KBH is less a single venue than a cultural ecosystem housed in one building. Since 1970, it has provided space for whatever Copenhagen's creative community needed at any given time. Today that means a basement concert venue, a board game cafe with over 3,000 games, a cinema showing art house and classic films, a comedy stage, and a regular cafe/bar. Each space operates semi-independently, which gives the building the feeling of a small village.
The basement concert venue, Musikcaféen, is the main draw for nightlife visitors. The room holds about 200 people in a space that's more functional than atmospheric. Sound quality is good for the room size, and the low stage means you're never more than a few meters from the performers. Booking ranges across every genre, which means checking the schedule before showing up is recommended. A random Wednesday might be a jazz trio. A Friday could be a three-band punk bill.
Bastard Cafe, the board game space on an upper floor, deserves specific mention. Over 3,000 board games are available for a small hourly fee, and the cafe serves drinks and simple food. It's a genuinely unique Copenhagen experience and works as a social activity for groups or a way to meet strangers over a shared game.
The broader building has the charm of institutional impermanence. Nothing looks polished or designed. Staircases creak, paint peels artfully, and the overall aesthetic is of a space that prioritizes use over appearance. At DKK 50-120 for concerts and DKK 45-60 for beer, HUSET represents some of the best-value cultural programming in Copenhagen.
The Neighborhood
HUSET-KBH is on Radhusstraede in central Copenhagen, between Stroget and Radhuspladsen (City Hall Square). Despite its city center location, the venue's programming and audience connect more to the alternative scenes in Norrebro and Vesterbro than to the tourist-oriented entertainment nearby.
Getting There
Walk from City Hall Square in about 3 minutes. Metro Gammel Strand (M3, M4) is a 2-minute walk. Bus 2A and 26 stop on Radhusstraede. From Norrebro, the 5C bus to Norrebrogade or the metro M3 to Gammel Strand takes about 10 minutes.
