Garage Pub
Garage Pub is a neighborhood dive bar that has served the Cejl area for years without any ambition to be more than it is. The name is accurate in the best possible way: the interior has an informal, slightly industrial feel, with mismatched furniture, walls decorated with beer mats and old signage, and a bar that stocks the standard Czech range plus a few Slovak imports. There's no adult entertainment here. The Garage is a drinking pub that happens to be located in the Cejl neighborhood, which draws a mixed crowd from the surrounding streets. On any given evening you'll find construction workers finishing their shift, students who wandered east from the university area, Roma regulars from the district, and the occasional curious outsider. The draft selection runs to Starobrno, Pilsner Urquell, and a rotating Czech craft tap. Prices are low. The atmosphere is loud on weekends and functional on weekdays. It's the best starting point in the Cejl district if you want to get a read on the neighborhood before committing to the adult venues down the street.

What to Expect
A loud, unpretentious local pub. You walk in, find a seat at the bar or a table, order from a short drinks menu, and drink. No one will pay attention to you unless you draw attention to yourself.
Loud, mixed, unpretentious. The most genuinely local bar on the Cejl strip.
Czech pop, older dance tracks, occasional rock. Radio-style playlist on the speakers. Loud enough to notice, not loud enough to prevent conversation.
None. Work clothes, tracksuits, jeans. Anything goes.
Getting a drink in the Cejl area without the adult entertainment context. Also good as a calibration stop before or after visiting the strip clubs. Locals who live in the district.
Cash preferred. Czech koruna. Some card acceptance at the bar but cash is faster.

Good place to sit with a beer and get a feel for who uses the Cejl area before committing to a longer evening. The barstaff are straightforward; order in Czech if you can manage it. The toilets are functional but bring low expectations.
Full Review
Garage Pub doesn't have a concept or a brand. It has a door, a bar, and a reason for the neighborhood to have somewhere to drink. That's enough, and in the Cejl context it's actually valuable. The clientele is as mixed as anywhere in the city: you'll see a table of older Czech men playing cards, a group of younger Roma men loudly arguing about something, a couple at the bar who came in from somewhere else and are working out whether to stay.
The beer is good and served cold. Starobrno is the house pour, which is appropriate since the Starobrno brewery is a 10-minute walk away in the Stara Brno neighborhood. Pilsner Urquell is always on tap too, and there's usually a rotating craft tap from a Moravian microbrewery that changes monthly.
The interior hasn't been renovated in what feels like a decade, which gives it an authentic rather than shabby feel. The walls have the accumulated decoration of a pub that collects things over time: beer mats, old tram tickets, a photo of what might be a sports team. The furniture matches itself only in that none of it matches anything else.
For visitors using the Cejl area, Garage Pub serves a practical function: it's a place to sit, drink something cheap, and recalibrate before or after the strip clubs. It's also simply the best bar on the strip if your goal is an honest draft beer in an honest Czech pub. The adult entertainment venues elsewhere on Cejl are more expensive per drink and less comfortable to just sit in.
