Bourbon Social Club

Pinares, Pereira

Bourbon Social Club is a whiskey and spirits bar in the Pinares commercial area, operating a format that's unusual for Pereira: a dedicated spirits-focused bar with a list heavy on American bourbons and Scotch whiskies alongside Colombian aguardiente and rum. The interior uses leather seating, dark wood paneling, and low lighting to create a deliberately masculine aesthetic. The bar seats around 30 and has a small lounge section with leather armchairs. The spirits list covers roughly 60 labels across bourbon, rye, Scotch, Irish, and Colombian spirits. Cocktails are built on these foundations: old fashioned, Manhattan, and whiskey sour variations alongside aguardiente-based Colombian drinks. Food is limited to small snacks: nuts, chips, and a rotating small plate. The crowd is predominantly men in their 30s and 40s, either regulars or people directed here by someone who knows Pereira. Volume is kept at conversation level throughout.

Insider Tip

Ask about the off-menu single cask or limited bottles; the staff usually have something set aside that doesn't appear on the standard list. The Colombian rum section, which includes Ron Dictador and other locally produced aged rums, is worth exploring before moving to the bourbons. Coming on a weekday evening means quieter conditions and more attention from the bar staff.

Full Review

Bourbon Social Club fills a specific gap in Pereira's bar scene: a serious spirits bar for adults who want to drink well rather than drink loudly. The concept is unusual for a mid-sized Colombian city outside of Bogota and Medellin, and the execution is careful enough that it works.

The bar counter is the best seat in the house. The staff on weeknight evenings have time to walk through the list and explain the differences between bourbon production regions, the Scottish distillery system, and where Colombian rum fits in the broader South American spirits picture. This kind of guided conversation is rare in Colombian nightlife outside of specialized hotel bars.

The bourbon selection is the most complete in Pereira: standard Kentucky producers alongside some smaller craft operations that have started appearing in Colombian imports. The Scotch section covers the major distillery regions without being exhaustive. The Colombian spirits section is the most distinctive: Ron Dictador is the most recognized label, but the staff usually have bottles from smaller Colombian producers that aren't widely distributed.

The cocktail program reflects the spirits-first philosophy. The old fashioned is made correctly: proper dilution, a single large ice cube, expressed orange peel. The Manhattan uses a reliable sweet vermouth and doesn't overcomplicate the ratio. These are drinks made by people who understand what the recipe is for.

The crowd is small enough that you'll recognize the regulars after a single visit. These are people for whom the bourbon selection is a genuine interest, not a nightlife prop.
