La Rumba de los Andes
La Rumba de los Andes is a traditional-format live band venue on Avenida Circunvalar that sits at the quieter, more local end of the avenue's nightlife spectrum. The space holds around 120 people in a sit-down arrangement with tables facing a raised stage. Musicians rotate through the weekly program covering salsa, tango, and Andean folk, with some nights dedicated to a single genre and others mixing across the range. The format is closer to a supper club or pena than a dance club: bands play 45-minute sets with breaks, and the audience is seated rather than standing. Beer and aguardiente are the primary drinks, priced at the lower end of the Circunvalar range. The crowd skews older than most venues on the avenue, typically 35 and above, and includes a significant number of Circunvalar regulars who have been coming to this type of venue for two decades. This is not the loud nightclub experience the avenue is known for; it's the version of Circunvalar that existed before the big clubs arrived.

Insider Tip
Thursday nights have the best tango programming, which attracts dancers who take the format seriously. Arrive early enough to get a table near the front; the stage is small and the sightlines get blocked if you're seated at the rear. Order a bottle of aguardiente with mixers rather than rounds; it's cheaper and the format suits the sitting-down pace of the venue.
Full Review
La Rumba de los Andes offers something genuinely rare on Circunvalar: a live music experience rooted in traditional Colombian and Andean genres without the club format wrapped around it. Walking in from the avenue, the contrast is immediate. The tables are set with actual table covers. The lighting is warm rather than strobed. The stage is small but properly equipped.
The bands vary in quality across the week, but the better nights, particularly Thursdays with the tango programming, deliver performances that you'd pay significantly more for in Bogota or Cali. The tango dancers who come in on Thursday nights are experienced, and watching them work the small floor between the stage and the tables is one of the more culturally specific experiences available on the avenue.
The format suits a particular kind of evening: one where you want to sit down, listen properly, and drink at a pace that matches the music rather than trying to keep up with a dance floor. The older crowd reflects this. These are people who grew up with this music and come out specifically to hear it played live.
For foreign visitors with no background in salsa or Andean folk, this is an excellent introduction precisely because the sit-down format means you can watch and listen without being in the middle of it. The band breaks give you time to absorb what you've heard.

Other Venues in Avenida Circunvalar

La Herradura
One of the best-known clubs on Circunvalar, with two floors, a large dance floor, and a DJ rotation heavy on salsa, reggaeton, and electronic. Fills to capacity on Saturday nights and stays open until 5 AM.

El Escenario
Mid-sized live music venue with weekly acts covering vallenato, cumbia, and rock en espanol. The stage is visible from most of the bar, and the sound system is better than the standard on the avenue.

Babylon Club
Larger club on Circunvalar with separate rooms for different music formats: one side runs electronic and DJ sets, the other plays salsa and urban Latin. Cover charges apply on weekends.

Bar Sabor Latino
Open-front bar with tables spilling toward the avenue. Attracts a mixed crowd of locals and regional visitors for cold beer and casual conversation before the clubs open up.

Palenque Bar
Afro-Colombian themed bar with a strong cocktail menu featuring aguardiente-based drinks alongside cumbia and champeta on the playlist. Good starting point early in the evening.

Vertigo Lounge
Rooftop-level lounge with views across the city. The cocktail menu is more considered than most of Circunvalar's options, and the volume is low enough for conversation. Best visited before midnight.
