Brix Bar
Brix Bar anchors the early-evening scene on Avenida San Martin in Equipetrol, a corner spot with floor-to-ceiling windows that let the tropical air flow through when they're open. The interior leans into an industrial-modern aesthetic: exposed brick (the namesake), polished concrete, copper light fixtures, and a long marble-topped bar where the bartender works through a cocktail menu that's ambitious by Santa Cruz standards. The room holds about 60 people between the bar stools, booth seating, and a few high tables near the DJ setup. The DJ starts with deep house and lounge music around 8 PM and shifts toward Latin beats and reggaeton by 11 PM, tracking the energy of the room as it fills. The crowd is young professionals in their late twenties and thirties, dressed in the smart-casual style that Equipetrol demands. By midnight most people have moved on to the clubs, making Brix a reliable pre-club starting point rather than a destination for the whole night.
What to Expect
The space is open and airy when the windows are up, with warm light bouncing off the brick and copper. Early in the evening the vibe is dinner-adjacent: small groups talking over cocktails, couples on dates, a few people at the bar watching the bartender work. As the night progresses the music volume increases, more people stand than sit, and the atmosphere shifts toward a bar-club hybrid before the crowd migrates to the proper clubs.
Stylish and relaxed early, building to energetic as the night progresses. The Equipetrol crowd at its most polished.
Deep house and lounge early, transitioning to reggaeton, Latin pop, and cumbia later in the night
Smart casual. Collared shirts for men, something presentable for everyone. Not as strict as the clubs, but shorts and sandals are out of place.
Pre-club drinks and cocktail enthusiasts. Couples and small groups who want a stylish start to the evening.
Cash (Bolivianos) and cards accepted. Card machine reliable.

Insider Tip
The bartender's recommendations are better than anything you'd pick randomly from the menu. Grab the corner booth if it's open; it has the best view of the room. The kitchen serves small plates until 11 PM that pair well with cocktails.
Full Review
Brix Bar occupies a prime corner on Avenida San Martin, and the floor-to-ceiling windows make it one of the most visible venues in the strip. On a warm Saturday evening (which is most evenings in Santa Cruz), the windows are open and the distinction between inside and outside blurs. The air conditioning fights the tropical heat adequately but not aggressively.
The cocktail program is the standout. The bartender uses fresh ingredients, including tropical fruits that are cheap and abundant in Santa Cruz, and the presentation is careful without being precious. A tumbo sour costs 40 BOB and arrives looking and tasting like something from a Lima cocktail bar. The craft beer selection rotates and features Bolivian microbrews alongside Brazilian imports.
The food menu is small but thoughtful. Bruschetta, empanadas, and cheese boards serve as drinking accompaniments rather than full meals. The kitchen closes around 11 PM, so eat dinner elsewhere if you need substance.
The crowd is Equipetrol's young professional class. Women arrive in heels and cocktail dresses; men wear fitted shirts and clean shoes. The aesthetic is aspirational, reflecting Santa Cruz's self-image as Bolivia's most modern city. Foreigners are uncommon enough to be interesting but not so rare as to be a spectacle.
Compared to the clubs further down the strip, Brix Bar offers conversation at a reasonable volume and drinks at a high standard. It's the setup for the evening rather than the main event. By midnight the energy peaks and then disperses as people head to Vaiven, Jockey Club, or wherever the night leads.
The Neighborhood
Brix Bar is on Avenida San Martin in the heart of Equipetrol's nightlife strip. Vaiven and Jockey Club are within a few minutes' walk. La Casona del Camba is on a nearby side street. Several restaurants along the avenue serve dinner before the bars open. Hotels in Equipetrol are concentrated within walking distance during daylight hours.
Getting There
A radio taxi from the city center (Plaza 24 de Septiembre) costs 20-35 BOB and takes about 15 minutes. From the airport (Viru Viru), expect 60-100 BOB and 25-35 minutes. Within Equipetrol, it's walkable from most hotels during the day, but take a taxi at night even for short distances.
