Yours Truly

Front Street, Hamilton

Yours Truly is Hamilton's dedicated cocktail bar, tucked into a small space at 6 Burnaby Hill, one block uphill from Front Street. The room holds maybe 40-50 people comfortably, with a long bar, a handful of tables, and dim lighting that makes the space feel more intimate than its size suggests. The cocktail program is the point. Bartenders here actually know their craft, working with fresh ingredients, house-made syrups, and a spirit selection that goes well beyond the standard Bermuda rum-and-beer routine. The menu changes seasonally, with 10-12 signature cocktails at any given time. Classic cocktails are made properly on request. The crowd tends toward late-20s to 40s professionals who appreciate a well-made drink over a high-volume party. It's not the place for cheap rounds or loud dancing. Thursdays through Saturdays are the active nights. The lack of a kitchen means they sometimes partner with food trucks or pop-up kitchens outside, particularly during the summer months. The space fills quickly on weekends, and there's no reservation system for the bar, so arriving before 9 PM is advisable.

What to Expect

A small, dimly lit room with a long bar and craft cocktail focus. The sound level stays at conversation-friendly. The bartender will engage if you show interest in what they're making. This feels more like a cocktail bar you'd find in a bigger city, transplanted to a Bermuda side street.

Atmosphere

Intimate, sophisticated, and quiet enough for conversation. A deliberate contrast to the louder waterfront bars a block away.

Music

Curated playlist of jazz, neo-soul, and downtempo. Volume kept low to allow conversation. Occasional DJ nights with deep house or similar.

Dress Code

Smart casual leaning toward dressed up. Button-down shirts, dark jeans or chinos for men. Most women dress up slightly. It's the most fashion-conscious spot on Front Street.

Best For

Cocktail enthusiasts, couples on a date night, anyone wanting a break from the beer-and-rum-punch circuit.

Payment

Credit cards and cash (BMD/USD). Most people pay by card here.

Price Range

Cocktails $18-24 BMD, beer $10-12 BMD, wine $14-18 BMD

Cocktails ~$18-24 USD, beer ~$10-12 USD

Insider Tip

Arrive before 9 PM on Friday or Saturday to get a seat. Tell the bartender what spirits you like and let them recommend something off-menu. The seasonal menu is always worth trying before defaulting to a classic. If the space is full, Hog Penny Pub is literally next door for a drink while you wait.

Full Review

Burnaby Hill is a short, steep street running uphill from Front Street, and Yours Truly sits at the bottom, almost hidden. There's no flashy signage. A small entrance gives way to a narrow room that could be a speakeasy if it tried any harder. The bar runs along one wall, with stools for maybe eight people. Small tables and banquettes fill the rest of the space. Candles provide most of the light.

The cocktail menu is printed on a single card and changes with the seasons. A recent visit featured a rum-based drink with passion fruit and cardamom that worked surprisingly well, alongside a mezcal number with lime and something smoky-sweet. Every cocktail arrived beautifully presented without the Instagram-bait excess that plagues some craft bars. The bartender explained the thinking behind each drink when asked, without being pretentious about it.

Classic cocktails are executed properly. An Old Fashioned came with good bourbon, the right amount of bitters, and a proper orange peel rather than a fruit salad garnish. A Negroni was balanced. These seem like basic standards, but in Bermuda, where many bars default to rum punch and Dark 'n Stormys, having a bartender who can make a proper Daiquiri is worth noting.

The crowd is noticeably different from the Front Street waterfront bars. Younger professionals, well-dressed couples, and a handful of visitors who sought this place out specifically. The absence of TVs, loud music, or games gives the room a focus that the pub-style venues nearby don't attempt.

The downside is capacity. On a busy Friday, the room hits its limit fast. Standing room only by 10 PM, and the intimacy that makes the place special starts to strain when you're shoulder to shoulder. The solution is simple: arrive early.

Prices are at the top of Hamilton's range. Cocktails at $18-24 are steep even by Bermuda standards. But the quality gap between a $20 cocktail here and a $16 rum punch on Front Street is significant. You're paying for ingredients, technique, and atmosphere.

In a town where most bars serve variations on the same theme, Yours Truly offers something genuinely different. It's the bar Hamilton needed.
