World Bar
World Bar is a multi-level nightclub in a heritage building on Bayswater Road, directly adjacent to Candy's Apartment. The venue spreads across three floors, each with a different music policy and atmosphere. The ground floor is a bar with pub-style seating. The first floor has a dance floor and the main DJ booth. The top floor is a smaller, more intimate space with its own bar and music. The signature serve is the teapot cocktail, a shared cocktail served in a ceramic teapot with straws, priced at AUD 25-35. It's become a Kings Cross icon. The crowd skews younger than Candy's, with university students and backpackers making up a significant portion. Entry ranges from free to AUD 20 depending on the night and time.
What to Expect
Three floors of increasing energy. Start on the ground floor for drinks and conversation, move up as the night picks up. The first floor dance area gets properly packed after 11 PM on weekends. Expect a young, international crowd that's here to party rather than pose.
Loud, young, and unpretentious. The heritage building gives it more character than a standard nightclub, and the multi-level layout means you can find different energy levels on different floors.
Top 40, hip-hop, and EDM on the main floor. Alternative and indie on the top floor. Varies by night.
Casual. This is one of the more relaxed venues in Kings Cross. Clean sneakers, jeans, and a decent shirt will get you in. Avoid singlets (tank tops) and flip-flops.
Groups of friends, backpackers, and anyone looking for a high-energy night without premium pricing.
Cards and contactless payments accepted. Cash also works at all bars.

Full Review
World Bar sits in one of Kings Cross's more interesting buildings, a multi-story heritage structure that creaks and groans under the weight of a packed Saturday night. The ground floor functions as a standard bar with tables, a small stage for occasional live acts, and a bar that runs efficiently. The real action starts on the first floor, where the DJ booth faces a dance floor that gets dangerously full after 11 PM.
The teapot cocktails are genuinely the best value in the venue. A AUD 30 pot contains enough for 2-3 people and the mixes are strong. They're served with a wink and have become the venue's identity. Don't skip them for the sake of appearing sophisticated.
The top floor is the hidden gem. Smaller, darker, with different music (usually indie or alternative) and a crowd that drifted up from the main floor looking for something different. On quieter nights, this floor might be closed.
Bathrooms are adequate but not impressive. Queues form on the women's side after midnight. The venue has security on every floor, and they're attentive without being aggressive. The stairways between floors get congested during peak hours, so moving between levels requires patience.
For Kings Cross, World Bar fills the niche of affordable, high-energy nightlife that the area lost during the lockout era. It's not trying to be a cocktail bar or a premium club. It knows what it is and does it well.
