Indonesia Visa Overview 2026
Indonesia made significant visa improvements in 2023-2024. The headline change: the Visa on Arrival extended from 30 to 60 days in March 2024, with a 60-day extension possible from inside Indonesia (120 days total). The e-visa launched October 2023 and expanded eligibility through 2024-2025. The Second-Home Visa for long-stay residents launched 2023.
The 60-Day VOA
Indonesia's Visa on Arrival (B211A) gives 60 days entry, extendable for 60 more days inside Indonesia. USD 35 paid in USD or IDR at the airport. Available to nationals of 100+ countries (US, UK, EU, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, India, all major Western and Asian nations).
Processing 5-10 minutes at the airport. Bring USD 35 in cash (or pay with credit card at most major airports; ATMs are available in the immigration hall for IDR withdrawal). The VOA is valid for entry at all major Indonesian airports (Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Medan, Yogyakarta, Manado, Lombok).
E-Visa Alternative
The B211A e-visa launched October 2023 at molina.imigrasi.go.id (the Indonesian Immigration portal). USD 35, same as VOA. Useful for land-border arrivals (Singapore-Batam ferry, Malaysia-Pekanbaru bus) where VOA isn't always smoothly available, or for travelers who want to confirm entry approval before flying. Processing 3-5 business days. The e-visa is electronic; print and present at immigration.
Bali Tourism Tax
IDR 150,000 (around USD 9.50) per visitor, introduced February 2024. Separate from the visa fees. Payable via the loveballi.id portal (pay online before arriving) or at the airport e-tax counter on arrival to Denpasar (DPS). The tax funds Bali infrastructure and cultural preservation. Required regardless of length of stay; you pay once per entry. Not applicable to land arrivals from other Indonesian provinces.
Second-Home Visa
Launched 2023 for long-stay foreigners. A 5 or 10 year multi-entry visa for retirees, remote workers, and high-net-worth visitors. Requires IDR 2 billion (around USD 130,000) deposit in an Indonesian bank account. Application fee USD 100. Includes spouse and children as accompanying visa holders. Designed to replace the previous KITAS (work visa) and KITAP (permanent residence) for non-employed long-stayers.
VOA Extension Process
The 60-day VOA can be extended for 60 more days from inside Indonesia. Apply at any Indonesian Immigration office (Imigrasi) at IDR 500,000 (around USD 32) plus IDR 100,000 service fee. The process: photograph appointment, biometric scan, fingerprinting, fee payment, then return for stamp 3-7 days later. Many Bali travelers use visa agents in Denpasar or Kuta for IDR 800,000-1,200,000 total to handle the paperwork.
Practical Notes
The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration website is imigrasi.go.id. The Bali tourism tax portal is loveballi.id. Avoid unofficial commercial visa sites; the official portals process at the official rates. At major airports (especially Bali DPS), expect 30-60 minute immigration queues during peak arrival hours; arrive at VOA windows during off-peak hours (10:00-14:00) for faster service.
