Practical box

Transport
No metro in Bali; Grab and Gojek scooter taxis are the standard, with 2x to 4x surge for NYE. Roads around Seminyak and Canggu gridlock from 19:00 to 02:00; allow 45 to 90 minutes for what's normally a 15-minute trip. Walking is faster within Seminyak.
Costs
Hotels in Seminyak IDR 2,500,000-15,000,000 per night, around 2.5x off-peak. Beach club covers IDR 1.2M-7.5M with food and drinks. Bintang beer at a warung IDR 35,000; at a beach club IDR 95,000-145,000.
Safety on the night
Bali tourism tax IDR 150,000 (USD 9.50) applies at arrival, separate from any other fee. Bag-snatching from motorbikes happens on the Seminyak and Canggu streets after 02:00; phones in front pockets, no shoulder bags facing the road. The Kuta side streets get rough.
Dress
Tropical (25 to 29°C overnight). Smart resort wear at the beach clubs; collared shirt, linen pants for men. Flip-flops fine. Ubud retreats are casual.
Ticketing
Beach club tickets through the venue's site or via Klook. Smaller venues via Instagram DM. Bali hotel rates buying through Booking.com is generally cheaper than direct.

Bali's NYE Concentrates on the Coast

Bali's New Year's Eve splits between four zones with very different scenes. Seminyak runs the established beach club ecosystem (Potato Head, Ku De Ta, Mrs Sippy, La Plancha) with high-end NYE packages from 18:00 to 03:00. Canggu runs the surf-and-cocktail younger crowd with La Brisa, The Lawn, Old Man's, Finns Beach Club. Uluwatu runs the cliff-edge clubs at Single Fin and Karma Beach. Ubud runs the yoga-retreat and ceremony alternative.

The Seminyak beach club scene is the cinematic NYE Bali photo. Potato Head's all-night package at IDR 3.5M to 7.5M (USD 220 to USD 475) includes the international DJ lineup, multi-course dinner, open premium bar from 18:00, and midnight fireworks from the beach. Ku De Ta runs a similar format at IDR 4M to IDR 6.5M. Mrs Sippy's pool-deck NYE is the more compact party for IDR 1.5M to IDR 3M. La Plancha runs the casual beanbag option at IDR 750,000 with one cocktail. All sell out by mid-November.

Canggu's beach clubs are 20 to 30 percent cheaper across the board. La Brisa's beachfront bonfire NYE, The Lawn's pool party, Old Man's reggae-skewing event, and Finns Beach Club's larger DJ-and-pool format run IDR 1.2M to IDR 3.5M packages. The Canggu vibe is younger, more surf-and-yoga, less polished than Seminyak. Many travelers base in Seminyak for NYE and move to Canggu for January 1-2 daytime.

Uluwatu Cliff Scene

Single Fin Uluwatu runs the south-coast cliff-club NYE from 16:00 to 04:00 with international DJ bookings and the most photographed sunset view in Bali. IDR 1.2M to IDR 3.5M cover. The cliff position gives you visibility to fireworks from multiple beach clubs along the south coast simultaneously. Karma Beach (accessed by the inclinator down the cliff) runs a smaller resort-style NYE at IDR 2.5M with multi-course dinner and beach access. El Kabron runs a Spanish-influenced cliff NYE at IDR 1.8M.

Ubud Retreat Alternative

For a sober-friendly or wellness-focused NYE, Ubud runs the alternative. The Yoga Barn, Radiantly Alive, Pyramids of Chi, and various small retreats run NYE events with sound healing, ecstatic dance, bonfire ceremonies, and morning meditation. IDR 350,000 to IDR 1.5M. The crowd is yoga-retreat regulars; the format is the polar opposite of Seminyak.

Bali Tourism Tax and Practical Costs

Bali's tourism tax of IDR 150,000 (USD 9.50) applies on arrival via the loveballi.id portal or at the airport e-tax counter, introduced February 2024. Separate from the e-visa fee (USD 35 for the 60-day visa on arrival). Hotels in Seminyak run IDR 2.5M to IDR 15M per night for December 31, around 2.5x off-peak. Canggu and Ubud 30 to 40 percent cheaper. Grab and Gojek scooter taxis with 2x to 4x surge from 19:00 to 02:00. Roads around the Seminyak-Canggu strip gridlock from 20:00; allow 45 to 90 minutes for a trip that's normally 15 minutes.

Where to stay in Bali during New Year's Eve

Rooms in the core event neighborhoods sell out months ahead and run double the off-peak rate. The map below shows what's still available within walking distance of the action.
