Reggae Bar at Zoe Complex

Old City, Chiang Mai

The Reggae Bar at the Zoe Complex is a smaller reggae room within the Zoe in Yellow bar block on Ratvithi Road, distinct from the larger Roots Rock Reggae adjacent but sharing the same after-Zoe crowd. The space runs lower volume than the main Zoe outdoor area, with live reggae cover sets, a chill outdoor garden seating area, timber tables, and Rasta-themed decor. Drinks are cheap (beer 80-110 THB, simple cocktails 150-180 THB) and there's no cover. The room functions as a quieter alternative when the main Zoe complex gets too loud. Live music runs most evenings starting around 9:30 PM and continuing until 1 AM. Crowd is heavy backpacker.

Full Review

The Reggae Bar sits within the larger Zoe in Yellow bar block on Ratvithi Road, accessed via the same general entrance area as the main Zoe outdoor bars but tucked into a smaller side space. The interior runs Rasta-themed: green, yellow, and red accents, Marley posters, Caribbean flag motifs, and timber furniture. An outdoor garden seating area extends behind the room with low tables under string lights.

The music programming runs live reggae nightly with rotating local musicians. Sets typically start around 9:30 PM in three rotations until 1 AM, with breaks for the band to pass the hat. The volume sits notably lower than Roots Rock Reggae adjacent and the main Zoe outdoor bars; the room is built for conversation over the music rather than pure dance-floor energy.

Compared to Roots Rock Reggae a few meters away, this room is smaller, quieter, and more intimate. The two share the same general crowd but serve different needs: Roots is the music-and-energy destination, the Reggae Bar is the chill alternative. Many groups bounce between the two through an evening.

The tip culture is real for the band; 50-100 THB after a memorable cover is standard. The bar staff are friendly with English-speaking patrons. Cash payments are strongly preferred and process much faster than cards.
