Szpitalna 1
Szpitalna 1 takes its name from its address on ul. Szpitalna and ranks among Krakow's best nightclubs. The venue occupies a medieval cellar beneath the Old Town, typical of Krakow's underground club scene, with stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and three distinct rooms that each run different music programming on busy nights. The main room goes hard with techno and house. A second room plays hip-hop and R&B. A third, smaller space runs more experimental or downtempo sets. The result is a club that can satisfy different musical tastes under one roof. International DJs appear regularly, and the Polish electronic scene treats a Szpitalna 1 booking as a career milestone. The crowd is a mix of local students, tourists, and stag party spillover, though the music-focused rooms tend to filter out the least committed dancers.
What to Expect
A proper multi-room underground club in a medieval cellar. Different rooms, different music, different crowds. The techno room hits hard, the hip-hop room is more social, and the small room is where the experimenters hang out. Expect heat, sweat, and energy.
Underground in every sense. Stone walls, loud music, and a crowd that came to dance.

Casual to smart casual. The door isn't strict but turns away the most visibly intoxicated.

Thursday is the best night for a more local experience. Weekend crowds include more stag parties and tourists. The main techno room is in the deepest part of the cellar. Bring earplugs if you value your hearing. Buy tickets online for headline events.
Full Review
The entrance on Szpitalna is marked but modest. Stairs descend into a stone corridor that branches into the venue's three rooms. The architecture does most of the atmospheric work: 14th-century brick and stone vaults create a setting that no amount of interior design could replicate. The main room has a proper DJ booth, a lighting rig that works within the low ceiling constraints, and a sound system that fills the space without turning to mush in the stone acoustics.
The three-room concept is Szpitalna 1's biggest advantage over Krakow's other clubs. If you're tired of techno, walk to the hip-hop room. If the hip-hop room is too crowded, the small experimental space offers breathing room. This flexibility keeps people in the venue longer and creates a natural circulation.
The crowd varies by room and by night. Thursday pulls more students and locals. Friday and Saturday bring the stag party element, though this concentrates in the hip-hop room and around the bars rather than on the techno floor. Security is present and active. They'll intervene in aggressive behavior quickly, which keeps the atmosphere manageable even on the busiest nights.
Drink prices are fair for a Krakow club. The bars in each room keep queues moving, though the main room's bar gets slammed between 1 and 2 AM. Water is available and affordable. The venue runs very hot, especially in summer when the cellar becomes a sauna. Dress accordingly and pace your drinking.
