Larcomar Rooftop Bar

Miraflores, Lima

Larcomar is a three-level shopping center built into the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean in Miraflores, at the western edge of the Malecon Cisneros. Several bars and restaurants occupy the terrace levels, with the upper levels providing direct ocean views from positions roughly 70 meters above the water. The most relevant venues for nightlife are the terrace bars on the upper levels, which stay open until late on weekends. The view from these positions is among the best in Lima: the Pacific stretches west to the horizon, the city lights extend north along the Malecon, and the cliffs drop directly below. Prices reflect the setting and are among the highest in Miraflores. The crowd is upscale by Lima standards, including local professionals, tourists staying at the better Miraflores hotels, and couples on date nights. Security at Larcomar is visible and the venue is considered one of the safest nightlife settings in the city.

Insider Tip

The best terrace tables for ocean views face directly west; ask specifically for these when arriving. Sunset is the most dramatic time to visit, roughly 18:00-18:30 in summer. Budget for a higher drink spend here than anywhere else in Miraflores; the views carry a significant premium. Have a car arranged before leaving, as the descent from Larcomar to street level and then to a car can take time.

Full Review

Larcomar is the most visually striking nightlife setting in Lima and one of the most architecturally unusual venues in South American urban nightlife. The mall built directly into the cliff face is an engineering statement as much as a commercial one, and the bars on the upper terrace levels benefit from that positioning in a way that's genuinely difficult to replicate anywhere else in the city.

The view from the western-facing terraces at night is the primary reason to come. Looking west over the Pacific from 70 meters above the water, with the city lights extending north and south along the Malecon, is an experience that justifies the premium pricing. The sun sets directly over the ocean from these positions, and the transition from golden hour to full night is worth having a drink in hand for.

The bars themselves are competent rather than exceptional. Cocktails are made correctly, wine lists are functional, and the pisco sour quality varies by venue. None of them would be particularly remarkable without the setting. The setting makes them remarkable.

The crowd at the upper terrace bars is the most upscale in Miraflores: Lima professionals who can absorb the pricing, international business travelers staying at nearby five-star hotels, and couples who've chosen Larcomar specifically for the occasion. The social energy is calmer than the street-level bars, which suits the elevated positioning. Nobody comes to Larcomar to have a noisy night out; they come to have drinks in a spectacular place.
