Lux Lounge
Lux Lounge positions itself as UB's upscale cocktail destination, occupying a ground-floor space near the western end of Seoul Street, close to Chinggis Khaan Square. The interior favors dark tones with leather banquettes, low tables, and ambient lighting that sets it apart from the harsher aesthetics of UB's nightclubs. The bar counter seats about 15, with additional lounge seating for another 40-50 guests. The cocktail menu runs to 25-30 options, including both classics and house creations using imported spirits. A small food menu offers sharing plates. The crowd is noticeably different from the club scene: professionals in their late 20s to 40s, business people entertaining clients, and couples on dates. The atmosphere is conversational rather than dance-oriented, with music kept at background levels.
What to Expect
Push through a heavy door into a dim, cool space that feels transplanted from a more cosmopolitan city. The noise of Seoul Street disappears. The bartender greets you. The drink arrives in proper glassware. It's the kind of bar where you can hear yourself think, which is rarer than it should be in UB.
Sophisticated by UB standards, with a focus on comfort, conversation, and well-made drinks.
Lounge, deep house, and jazz at low volume. The music supports conversation rather than competing with it.
Smart casual to business casual. This is where UB's professionals drink, and the dress standard reflects that.
Couples, business meetings, and anyone wanting quality cocktails without the intensity of the club scene.
Cash and cards accepted.

Insider Tip
The bartender's Old Fashioned is the best cocktail in UB. Sit at the bar if you want conversation with the staff, who speak decent English. Reserve a booth for Friday or Saturday evening to guarantee seating.
Full Review
Lux Lounge fills a gap in UB's nightlife that most cities take for granted: a place where adults can drink properly made cocktails without shouting over music or watching for trouble. It's not a revolutionary concept, but in Ulaanbaatar's limited bar landscape, it stands out.
The space is well-designed within its budget constraints. Leather seating is comfortable and worn just enough to feel genuine rather than showroom-fresh. The lighting hits the right level: dark enough for atmosphere, bright enough to read the menu. The bar counter is the best seat in the house, with views of the bartender's work and the opportunity for conversation.
The cocktail program is the strongest point. The bartenders have been trained beyond the basics. An Old Fashioned arrives with proper technique: large ice, expressed orange peel, balanced sweetness. Gin-based cocktails use botanical garnishes. House creations experiment with Asian flavors, lemongrass, yuzu, and ginger, with mixed but mostly positive results. By UB standards, this is genuine craft cocktail territory.
The crowd self-selects. People come to Lux because they want a different experience from Metropolis or Mint. Conversations are audible. Groups are small. The energy is low-key rather than charged. This makes it the best date venue in UB and a reliable business meeting spot for after-work hours.
Pricing sits at UB's upper end but remains cheap by international standards. A cocktail at MNT 25,000 is about USD 7.50. The same drink in Seoul or Tokyo would cost three times as much. The value proposition is real.
The limitation is that Lux closes by 1 AM, meaning it works as a starting point or a mid-evening stop but not as a destination for late-night drinking.
