Bar 804 is the strongest argument that Almaty has matured past the bottle-service-and-loud-music phase. The space is deliberately small, which keeps it intimate and allows the bartenders to give proper attention to each drink. The shelving behind the bar displays a collection that would impress in any city: Japanese whisky, small-batch mezcal, rare gins, and a vermouth selection that suggests someone here actually cares.
The cocktail menu is built around seasons and local ingredients. A summer menu might feature drinks with apricot from southern Kazakhstan or wild thyme from the mountains. Winter menus lean toward warming spirits, mulled elements, and heavier flavors. Execution is consistent, with proper dilution, fresh garnishes, and glassware that matches the drink.
