Incognito Café & Bar
Incognito Café & Bar on Kossuth utca 12 is a compact two-room venue about 80 meters from Kossuth Lajos ter. The front room operates as a café through the afternoon, switching to bar service as evening draws in. The back room is darker and louder, with a proper cocktail bar set-up and around 40 seats across small tables. The cocktail menu runs 15 to 20 options split between classics and house originals, priced in the 1,900 to 2,600 HUF range. The wine list is short but includes Hungarian varietals from the Tokaj and Eger regions. The bar has a loyal local following built over several years of consistent service. Staff know regulars by name, and the atmosphere leans toward a neighborhood local rather than a destination bar. Peak evenings are Thursday through Saturday, when the back room fills with 25 to 35-year-olds who prefer conversation over volume.

What to Expect
A split-personality venue that works as a café by day and a cocktail bar by night. The back room is the better option for evening drinks. Staff are welcoming and the atmosphere is intimate.
Intimate and relaxed. Built for conversation, not dancing.
Background jazz and acoustic in the café section. Slightly louder pop and indie in the bar section during evenings.
Smart casual. The venue attracts a slightly older crowd than the ruin bars, and the presentation reflects that.
After-work drinks, cocktails without club-level noise, anyone who wants a proper café during the day.

Full Review
Incognito Café & Bar on Kossuth utca 12 sits in a quieter section of Belváros, close enough to Kossuth ter to catch foot traffic but far enough from the main ruin bars to attract a self-selecting crowd. The venue has two distinct operating modes divided across its two rooms: café in the front, cocktail bar in the back.
The front room handles the daytime café trade with competent coffee, light food, and the kind of background atmosphere that works for reading or a casual meeting. It transitions smoothly into the evening, when the back room takes over as the main draw. That back room is properly fitted for cocktail service: a full bar setup, low lighting, small tables, and about 40 seats that fill gradually from 7 PM onward.
The cocktail menu stays manageable at 15 to 20 options. Classics are executed cleanly; the house originals are genuinely worth trying and change seasonally. Wine service shows some thought, with Hungarian wines from Tokaj and Eger alongside a small selection of imports. Staff treat wine questions seriously, which is rarer in this price range than it should be.
The crowd is uniformly older than the ruin bar scene down the road. People here came for drinks they can taste, not drinks they can barely afford not to finish. Conversations run at comfortable volume. The space is intimate and gets cozy when full, which it does on Thursday and Friday evenings.
It's not a place to go if you want to dance or be part of a large social scene. It is a place to go if you want a competent cocktail in a room where you can hear yourself speak.
The Neighborhood
Kossuth utca feeds off Kossuth Lajos ter, Debrecen's main central square. The bar benefits from its proximity to the square without the tourist foot traffic of the main Piac utca strip.
