Trachtenvogl
Trachtenvogl on Reichenbachstrasse is the kind of neighborhood bar that Munich's gentrification has made harder to find. It's been operating for decades, and the interior shows it: worn wooden furniture, mismatched chairs, a bar that takes up most of one wall, and walls covered with the accumulated clutter of years. The name references traditional Bavarian dress, and there's some ironic affection for Bavarian kitsch in the decor. The crowd on any given night includes people who've been drinking here for twenty years alongside newer residents who discovered the place recently. Cheap draught beer, a limited spirits selection, and no cocktail menu. The bar doesn't take reservations and there's rarely a queue. Capacity is around 60-80 inside, with some additional space outside in summer. It stays busy until closing time and operates a no-nonsense policy: drink up, don't make trouble.

What to Expect
A small, dark, busy neighbourhood bar. No music policy beyond whatever's playing on the sound system, which rotates between German pop, rock, and occasional jazz. Conversations compete with the background noise.
Genuinely local. Warm, slightly noisy, no pretension.
Background music only, varies by whoever's behind the bar. No DJ, no live music.
None. Jeans and a t-shirt, work clothes, anything goes.
Locals who want a good cheap beer without a theme. Visitors looking for the real Munich neighborhood experience rather than a tourist bar.
Cash strongly preferred. EC-Karte sometimes accepted but card readers can be unreliable.
Price Range
Draught beer (0.5L) EUR 4-5. Weissbier EUR 5. Spirits EUR 4-6.
Beer ~$4.50-5.50 / ~£3.50-4.50. Spirits ~$4.50-6.50 / ~£3.50-5.
Hours
Daily from 17:00 until 01:00. Weekends sometimes later.
Insider Tip
Come before 20:00 on weekends to get a seat. The outside tables fill fast on warm evenings. Order at the bar and carry drinks yourself.
Full Review
Trachtenvogl serves the purpose that every good neighborhood bar should serve: it's there when you want it, it's cheap, and nobody judges you for sitting alone or staying for three hours. In a city where the cost of a beer has been climbing steadily, the prices here still feel like a small victory.
The space is compact and gets crowded quickly. The furniture is chosen for durability rather than style. The bar itself is well-stocked for what it is: a selection of German draught beers, Weissbier in bottles, a range of spirits, and nothing resembling a cocktail menu. You come here for beer and conversation.
The crowd mix is the main draw. In a city where bars increasingly sort themselves by age, income, or aesthetic, Trachtenvogl resists that sorting. Students drink next to professionals who've been coming since before the students were born. The regulars know each other; the first-timers are treated with neutral acceptance.
Service is direct. The staff are not unfriendly but they're not performing hospitality for tips either. You order, they pour, you pay, you drink. This is Bavaria's approach to service and it's refreshing if you're used to the performative warmth of tourist-facing venues.
