The design is intentional down to the lighting, which creates warmth without the self-conscious dimness that plagues many cocktail bars trying too hard.

Weeknight crowds are small enough that the DJ sets serve as genuine background music rather than a performance competing with conversation. The bartenders make solid cocktails in the EUR 9 to 13 range, and the beer selection covers the Kolsch basics alongside a few interesting German craft options at EUR 3.50 to 5. The crowd is local, mid-20s to 40s, and dressed as if they care about how they look without overthinking it.

In Eigelstein's bar landscape, which includes traditional Brauhausers and simpler neighborhood pubs, Elektra is the sophisticated option. It is not trying to be Berlin or London; it is doing something specifically Cologne, taking the city's deep pub tradition and applying better design and more thoughtful music. The result is a bar that feels grown-up without becoming stuffy or exclusive.

Go on a weeknight to actually hear the music properly. Arrive early on Fridays and Saturdays, as the small room fills by 10 PM and standing room goes fast. The corner pub exterior genuinely undersells the interior, so do not judge the place from the street.
