Bar Kebra Cabana
Bar Kebra Cabana is a street-level drinking spot on the Plateau that functions as Praia's default pre-game and late-night social venue. The setup is simple: a bar counter inside, plastic tables and chairs on the sidewalk outside, and a sound system that plays a mix of Cape Verdean music and international pop at conversation-friendly volume most nights. The outdoor terrace is the draw. On Friday and Saturday evenings, every chair fills with young Praians sharing drinks, catching up on the week, and deciding where the night goes next. The crowd skews 20s and 30s, mixed gender, overwhelmingly local. Foreign visitors are welcome and attract friendly curiosity. Beer comes cold in bottles or on draft, grogue is poured generously, and the prices remain firmly local. No food menu to speak of, though someone might bring snacks from a nearby vendor. The bar has operated for years and carries the worn-in comfort of a place that doesn't need to try.

Cape Verdean pop, kizomba, funana, and whatever the barman feels like playing. Volume stays conversational.
Casual. T-shirts, jeans, sandals. Nobody cares.
Social drinkers, budget travelers, anyone looking for authentic local atmosphere without tourist pricing or pretense

Insider Tip
Friday around 10 PM is the sweet spot for atmosphere. The outdoor seats fill fast, so arrive by 9:30 PM or stand at the bar. Grogue is strong; alternate with water. The bar has no sign in English, look for the crowd of people on the sidewalk on Rua Serpa Pinto.
Full Review
Bar Kebra Cabana doesn't have a website, a menu card, or a social media presence. What it has is a sidewalk full of people every Friday and Saturday night, which tells you everything you need to know.
The physical space is minimal. A small interior bar area with a counter, some shelves of bottles, a fridge full of Strela and Sagres, and a sound system. The real bar is outside, where plastic tables and chairs spread across the sidewalk of the Plateau's Rua Serpa Pinto. This is where Praia's young crowd gathers before heading to Zero Zero Club, after leaving Quintal da Musica, or simply as the destination itself.
Beer costs CVE 150 for a local Strela, CVE 250 for an imported option. Grogue runs CVE 100 to 200 depending on quality. At these prices, a full evening of drinking costs less than a single cocktail in most European cities. Service is casual. You order at the bar, carry your own drinks, and settle up when you leave. The barman keeps a mental tab.
The crowd makes this place. Friday nights bring office workers, university students, musicians who just finished a set at Quintal da Musica down the street, and the occasional tourist who wandered in drawn by the noise. Conversations start easily. Cape Verdeans are genuinely social people, and the combination of cheap drinks, warm night air, and close-proximity seating breaks down barriers fast.
The music is background rather than feature. Cape Verdean pop and kizomba play at a volume that allows conversation. Nobody dances here; that happens at Zero Zero or Quintal. This is a talking and drinking bar.
For context, Kebra Cabana fills the gap between the cultural weight of Quintal da Musica and the dance-focused energy of Zero Zero Club. It's the middle ground, the connective tissue of the Plateau's Friday night circuit.
The Neighborhood
On the Plateau, Praia's central hilltop district. Quintal da Musica is a 2-minute walk south. The main square with Cafe Sofia is 3 minutes north. Zero Zero Club is around the corner on Rua de Lisboa.
Getting There
Taxi to the Plateau from lower Praia, CVE 200-400. Once on the Plateau, walk to Rua Serpa Pinto. The bar is identifiable by the crowd outside. No dedicated parking.
