Colombia Visa Overview 2026
Colombia maintains its 90-day visa-free entry policy and added a Digital Nomad Visa in October 2023. The combination makes Colombia one of the most accessible Latin American countries for long-stay tourism and remote work.
The 90-Day Visa-Free Entry
Citizens of 100+ countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, EU members, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, all major Latin American nations, and many others) can enter Colombia visa-free for 90 days on arrival. Free. Requirements: valid passport, return or onward ticket, proof of sufficient funds if asked.
180-Day Extension
The 90-day visa-free entry can be extended for 90 more days at any Migracion Colombia office, for a maximum total stay of 180 days per calendar year. Apply at any Migracion Colombia office (Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena, Cali, Barranquilla, and 30+ smaller cities). Cost COP 250,000 (around USD 60). Processing 1-3 days. Required: passport, current visa stamp, application form, fee receipt.
After 180 days, you must exit Colombia for a reasonable period before re-entering for another 90-day visa-free window. Most travelers exit via short flights to Panama City, Lima, or Quito.

Practical Notes
The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs site is cancilleria.gov.co. The Migracion Colombia site is migracioncolombia.gov.co. Most Colombian consulates worldwide handle visa applications; the consulate in your country of citizenship is the standard application point.
Colombia tax-residency rules apply to anyone in Colombia 183+ days per year. Medellin and Bogota concentrate the largest foreign remote-worker communities; many use local accounting services for tax compliance (around USD 50-100/month). The Spanish-only requirement for many bureaucratic processes is a practical consideration; English-speaking immigration lawyers are available in Bogota and Medellin.
