Brazil reinstated visa requirements for US, Canadian, and Australian citizens in April 2025 (after multiple delays of the originally 2024-planned reinstatement). The rest of the world's tourists continue with the existing rules: visa-free for EU, UK, and 80+ other countries; visa-required for most non-Western/non-Latin nationalities.
Visa Requirement for US, Canada, Australia (Reinstated 2025)
Brazil reinstated the USD 80 e-visa requirement for US, Canadian, and Australian citizens in April 2025. The reinstatement is based on diplomatic reciprocity (the US, Canada, and Australia require visas from Brazilian citizens). Apply at the official Brazil e-visa portal. 5 business day processing. The visa is valid for 10 years multi-entry; each visit up to 90 days, extendable to 180 days.
Visa-Free Entry for EU/UK/Others
Citizens of EU countries, UK, Switzerland, Norway, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay, Paraguay, Israel, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and 60+ other nationalities can enter Brazil visa-free for 90 days. Free. Extendable to 180 days from inside Brazil at any Federal Police office (Policia Federal) for approximately R$ 250 (around USD 50).
Brazil Digital Nomad Visa
Launched 2022. USD 1,500/month income from a foreign employer or remote-work contract. Cannot work for a Brazilian employer. USD 100 application. 1-year visa renewable for one more year (2 years maximum). Apply at Brazilian consulate. Processing 60-90 days. The visa includes spouse and minor children.
The Digital Nomad Visa is useful for visitors who want longer than the 180-day extended visa-free period. After 2 years, must transition to a different visa class or exit Brazil.
Yellow Fever Requirement
Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for entry from certain South American and African countries (Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, and most African countries) and recommended even for entry from low-risk countries. The vaccination is widely available; Brazilian consulates also offer the vaccination on-site for some applications.

Brazil entry requirements: valid passport (6+ months remaining), return or onward ticket, sufficient funds. Brazil immigration is professional; the 90-day stamp is granted automatically on arrival. The yellow fever requirement varies by departure country; check the Brazilian Ministry of Health site (saude.gov.br) for the current list.
Working in Brazil on a tourist visa or Digital Nomad Visa is prohibited for Brazilian-source income. The Brazilian tax-residency rules apply to anyone in Brazil 183+ days per year; consult a Brazilian tax advisor before applying for long-term residency.
