Phuket's Beach-and-Water Songkran
Phuket Songkran has a distinct character: the standard water battle on Bangla Road in Patong alongside the beach-club daytime party format that no other Thai city offers. April 13-15 is the official festival; Phuket runs Songkran less extended than Pattaya but covers the cultural Buddha parade in Phuket Old Town alongside the modern water-war scene.
Bangla Road in Patong is the densest water battle in Phuket: the 400 meter pedestrian strip becomes shoulder-to-shoulder water war from 13:00 to 22:00 each day. Bars throw water from doorways; vendors sell waterproof phone bags (THB 100-200) and high-pressure water guns (THB 200-1,500). The peak intensity is the afternoon of April 14 from 14:00 to 18:00. Beach Road (Pratchanukroh Road) also gets soaked but in the open beach environment.
Phuket Old Town Cultural Side
The traditional Buddha image parade through Phuket Old Town happens on the morning of April 13. The parade starts at 09:00 from Sam Kong Shrine and runs through the Sino-Portuguese-architecture-lined streets to Sapan Hin Park, ending around 12:00. Free, walk-up. The cultural side of Phuket Songkran; the Sino-Portuguese shophouse facades provide the visual backdrop for the procession.
Kata Rocks and Surin Beach Clubs
Kata Rocks runs daytime Songkran pool parties with DJs, controlled water spraying systems, and infinity-pool views over the Andaman. THB 1,800-4,500 per person depending on package. Surin Beach's beach clubs (Catch Beach Club, Catch Plus, the resort-side beach bars at Twinpalms) run Songkran daytime events at THB 1,500-3,500. The polished beach-club Songkran format that Patong can't deliver.
Mai Khao and Bang Tao Beach Resorts
The luxury resort hotels on Mai Khao and Bang Tao (Anantara, Banyan Tree, Twinpalms, Amanpuri) run private Songkran events for their guests with water-themed dinner buffets, pool parties, and traditional Mon-style cultural performances. Most are included in resort all-inclusive packages.
Practical Phuket Songkran Numbers
Hotels in Patong THB 3,000 to THB 9,500 per night during Songkran, around 1.8x off-peak. Kata-Karon and Bang Tao 20 to 30 percent cheaper than Patong. Luxury resorts (Banyan Tree, Anantara) at THB 15,000 to THB 35,000. Book by February. April overnight temperatures at 25 to 28°C; quick-dry beach clothing. No metro; Bolt and Grab with 2x to 3x surge. Tuk-tuks at the high Patong fixed rates. The Bangla Road closure from 12:00 forces detours via Second Road.
Where to stay in Phuket during Songkran
