Practical box
- Transport
- Songthaews (baht buses) run THB 50 per hop during the festival. Avoid Grab on Beach Road; the closure makes them impractical. Walking between Beach Road and Walking Street is the practical option.
- Costs
- Hotels in Central or South Pattaya THB 2,500-7,500 per night during Songkran, around 1.8x off-peak. Walking Street club covers THB 500-1,800. Beer at a Beach Road vendor THB 90-150.
- Safety on the night
- Same Songkran safety issues as Bangkok: eye injuries from water guns, slip-and-fall on wet streets, pickpocketing in dense crowds. The Walking Street pavement gets dangerously slippery by afternoon.
- Dress
- Quick-dry clothes, waterproof phone bag, sunglasses or goggles, sandals. No leather, no electronics outside waterproof bags.
- Ticketing
- Walk-up to all venues. Walking Street clubs walk-in.

Pattaya Runs Songkran Longer Than Anywhere Else
Pattaya is the only Thai city that officially extends Songkran past the national April 13-15 holiday. The local Wan Lai festival on April 18-19 originally marked the end of the New Year period in the Pattaya area and continues today as the city's signature Songkran event. The result: while the rest of Thailand wraps up by April 16, Pattaya runs full water-festival mode through April 19. The Walking Street and Beach Road water battles peak on April 19, the largest single Songkran day in Thailand by single-day attendance.
The Wan Lai parade on the morning of April 19 runs along Beach Road from Pattaya Klang to Pattaya Tai: floats with traditional Thai costumes, the Songkran-themed beauty pageant, the symbolic Buddha statue being carried for street-side water blessing. The parade starts at 10:00 and runs until 12:00. By afternoon Beach Road transitions into the largest beachfront Songkran water battle in Thailand.
Walking Street Songkran Density
Walking Street becomes the densest Songkran water-war zone in Pattaya from April 18-19. The bars and clubs throw water from doorways; vendors line the strip selling high-pressure water guns (THB 200-1,500) and waterproof phone bags (THB 100-250). The peak intensity is the afternoon of April 19 from 14:00 to 18:00; the pavement gets dangerously slippery by 16:00. Bar covers and club entry fees double or triple during the festival.
Naklua Cultural Side
The traditional Thai Songkran observance happens at Wat Naklua in North Pattaya. The Mon-style Songkran ceremony (Pattaya was historically a Mon ethnic area) includes pouring scented water over Buddha images, offering monks the morning alms, and the traditional Mon-style dance performance. Free entry, casual respectful dress, no water guns. The cultural side of the festival for travelers who want both halves of Songkran.
Soi Buakhao and Soi 6 Day Parties
Pattaya's smaller club strips (Soi Buakhao and Soi 6) run daytime Songkran parties from April 13 through April 19 with covers, DJs, and indoor water spraying. The longer-running club option through the full week. THB 500-1,800 cover. The crowd is the long-stay Pattaya expat and the international tourist who wants daytime music rather than the open-street water war.
