Big Mike's
Big Mike's anchors the Kabalagala nightlife strip from a two-story building on Ggaba Road. The ground floor holds the main bar and a dance floor that fits roughly 150 people when packed. The upper floor has a wraparound balcony overlooking the road and a second bar with a more relaxed atmosphere. A rooftop terrace on top provides open-air seating and views down Ggaba Road's neon-lit stretch. The sound system handles the bass-heavy playlists without losing clarity. DJs play from a booth elevated above the main dance floor, and the music selection follows the crowd's energy: warming up with hip-hop and R&B, building through afrobeats, and peaking with dancehall and Ugandan gengetone tracks. Entry fees vary by night but typically run UGX 10,000-20,000 on weekends. The venue fills from midnight and runs until the crowd decides it's over, sometimes past 5 AM on Saturday nights.

Insider Tip
The rooftop terrace is the best spot early in the evening before the dance floor fills. Saturday is the biggest night, but Friday offers a better ratio of energy to crowd density. The upper floor balcony lets you watch the Ggaba Road scene below while staying cooler than the packed ground floor.
Full Review
Big Mike's is the venue that defines Kabalagala's nightlife character. It's louder, younger, and less polished than anything in Kololo, and that's exactly the point. The energy here comes from the crowd itself rather than from fancy decor or cocktail menus.
The ground floor dance floor is where the action concentrates. By 1 AM on Saturday, it's packed with bodies moving to whatever the DJ is playing. The music selection is crowd-driven; a good DJ reads the room and adjusts. The best sets I've seen here build from slower hip-hop into full-speed afrobeats that have the entire floor bouncing.
The multi-level layout is the venue's best feature. When the ground floor gets too hot (and it will), the upper floor provides relief without leaving the venue. The balcony overlooking Ggaba Road gives you a bird's-eye view of the strip below. The rooftop terrace is the coolest spot, both temperature-wise and atmospherically.
Prices are Kabalagala-standard, meaning cheap. Beer is under $2.50, and you can have a full night out for under $20 including entry, drinks, and transport. The cocktails are basic (don't expect Cayenne-level mixing) but they're strong and cold.
Security is present at the door with bag checks. Inside, the vibe is generally safe and friendly. The main risk is pickpocketing in the dense ground-floor crowd; keep your phone in a front pocket.

Uber or SafeBoda from Kampala CBD takes 15-25 minutes and costs UGX 10,000-20,000. From Kololo, 10-15 minutes. Tell the driver 'Big Mike's Kabalagala' and they'll know it. The venue is on the main Ggaba Road with visible signage.
