Soi 6

Illegal but Tolerated2/5

Last updated: 2026-02-01

Overview and Location

Soi 6, officially Soi Yodsak, is a short street running roughly 340 meters between Beach Road and Second Road in northern Pattaya. It packs over 90 beer bars into that compact space, making it one of the densest concentrations of entertainment venues anywhere in the city. The bars here operate on a different model from Walking Street's go-go clubs: short visits, rooms on-site, lower prices, faster turnover.

What sets Soi 6 apart is its daytime activity. While most of Pattaya's nightlife doesn't stir until evening, Soi 6 starts filling up after lunch. By mid-afternoon, many bars are already busy. This makes it unusual among Pattaya's entertainment areas and gives it a character distinct from the neon-heavy nighttime strips elsewhere in the city.

Legal Status

The same Thai laws apply on Soi 6 as everywhere else in the country. Prostitution is illegal under the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act. The bars hold standard entertainment or food and beverage licenses. What actually happens inside them operates in a gray zone that Thai authorities have tolerated for decades while concentrating enforcement on trafficking and underage exploitation.

Soi 6 has faced periodic crackdowns. Local authorities have occasionally enforced stricter rules on the street, including limits on how aggressively workers can solicit from doorways. These restrictions come and go. The closing time is officially 1 AM, earlier than Walking Street's 3 AM, and this is generally observed more consistently than on the larger strip.

Costs and Pricing

Soi 6 is Pattaya's cheapest nightlife area. Prices here run 30-50% below Walking Street, which is the main draw for many visitors.

Drinks. Bottled beer costs 80-140 THB depending on the bar. Happy hour deals, common in the afternoon, can bring prices down to 60-90 THB. Draft beer runs 70-100 THB at most places. Soft drinks cost 60-80 THB. These are the lowest drink prices you'll find in any Pattaya entertainment area.

Lady drinks. Priced at 120-210 THB, with most bars in the 150-185 THB range. The Nightwish group of bars (which operates several venues on the street) prices lady drinks at 185 THB. Be aware that some bars price lady drinks higher than what's posted, so confirm the cost before ordering.

Bar fines. This is where Soi 6 differs most from Walking Street. Bar fines typically run 400-500 THB, a fraction of the 1,500-2,500 THB charged on Walking Street. Total short-time costs (bar fine plus the worker's own fee) generally run 1,500-2,000 THB. A notable feature of Soi 6 pricing is that bar fines tend to decrease as the night progresses. After 11 PM, some venues drop to 800 THB or lower as bars try to ensure their workers have customers before closing time.

Rooms. Unlike Walking Street, most Soi 6 bars have rooms above or directly behind the bar. This means you don't need to pay for a separate hotel. The room is typically included in the bar fine, though some bars charge a small room fee of 200-300 THB on top.

Daily budget. A realistic budget for a Soi 6 visit is 1,500-3,000 THB, including drinks, a bar fine, and food from a nearby vendor. That's roughly half what you'd spend on Walking Street for a similar evening.

Street-Level Detail

Soi 6 is a straight, narrow road with bars packed tightly along both sides. Most are open-front beer bars with stools or benches at street level. Workers stand in the doorways and actively call out to passersby. This is significantly more aggressive than what you'll experience on Walking Street or Soi Buakhao, and first-time visitors sometimes find it overwhelming.

The bars themselves are small. Most have a handful of seats, a bar counter, a TV playing music or sports, and a staircase or hallway leading to rooms in the back or upstairs. There's not much variation in format from one bar to the next. The difference between venues comes down to the workers, the prices, and how aggressively they operate.

The Nightwish group runs several bars on the street and has a reputation for transparent pricing and no bill padding. These are identifiable by their branding and tend to be the more orderly establishments on the soi. For first-time visitors, they're a reasonable starting point.

Both ends of the street connect to main roads. The Beach Road end opens onto the coastal strip with its own nightlife and transport options. The Second Road end connects to the wider Pattaya road network and is easier for hailing a Grab. Food vendors and small restaurants cluster near both entrances.

Safety

Soi 6 carries a higher risk profile than Walking Street or Soi Buakhao. The aggressive solicitation, the speed of transactions, and the confined bar spaces all create more opportunities for problems.

Bill padding is the most common issue. Some bars add extra charges or inflate the price of drinks after you've committed. Always ask prices before ordering anything, keep your own count of drinks, and review the bill carefully. Don't pay without checking. If a bill seems wrong, stay calm and dispute it politely. Getting angry will make things worse.

Drink spiking has been reported on Soi 6. Stick to bottled drinks you see opened, and don't leave your glass unattended. Petty theft is another risk; don't bring valuables or carry more cash than you need. Leave your passport at the hotel safe.

Save 1155 (tourist police) in your phone. If a serious dispute arises, tell the bar you're calling 1155. This often resolves the situation quickly.

Cultural Context

Soi 6 is the most transactional of Pattaya's entertainment areas. There's little pretense of a nightclub atmosphere or extended socializing. Visitors come for a specific purpose, and the bars are structured to serve that purpose quickly and efficiently. It's the least "social" nightlife street in Pattaya.

The workers on Soi 6 tend to be more direct than their counterparts on Walking Street, where go-go bars maintain at least the framework of a performance venue. Here, the business model is open and the negotiations happen at the doorway. This bluntness can feel jarring to newcomers, but it's simply how the street operates. Don't mistake directness for aggression; most workers are just doing their job. Basic courtesy and clear communication go further here than anywhere else in Pattaya's nightlife scene.

Scam Warnings

The bell trick. Many bars have a bell mounted on the wall or ceiling. If you ring it, you've just agreed to buy a round of drinks for every worker and customer in the bar. This can easily cost 2,000-5,000 THB. Don't touch the bell unless you intend to pay.

Aggressive upselling. Once inside a bar, workers may push for multiple lady drinks in quick succession or pressure you into a higher-priced arrangement than you intended. Set your budget before entering and stick to it.

Room condition disputes. Some bars may claim you damaged the room after your visit and demand additional payment. Take a quick look at the room's condition before using it, and note anything that's already worn or broken.

Nearby Areas

Beach Road. The western end of Soi 6 opens directly onto Beach Road, Pattaya's main coastal strip. After dark, this stretch has its own freelance scene, particularly between Soi 6 and Central Festival mall. Baht buses run along Beach Road in a continuous loop.

Soi 7 and Soi 8. The neighboring sois have a mix of hotels, restaurants, and smaller bar clusters. They're quieter than Soi 6 and useful for finding food or cheaper accommodation within walking distance.

Walking Street. About 2.5 kilometers south. A baht bus ride costs 10 THB, or a Grab runs 60-100 THB depending on traffic and time of night.

Meeting People Nearby

The immediate area around Soi 6 is entertainment-focused, but Beach Road has conventional restaurants and bars with a more relaxed atmosphere. Central Festival mall, a short walk south along Beach Road, is a modern shopping center with a food court and coffee shops that attract a mixed crowd.
