Mishka Bar

Rubinshteyna Street, Saint Petersburg

Mishka Bar (the name means 'bear' in Russian) occupies a cozy ground-floor space at Rubinshteyna Street 38, toward the quieter Fontanka River end of the bar strip. The room seats about 30 people across a bar counter and a scattering of small wooden tables. The interior is built around exposed brick walls, warm pendant lighting, and a mirror behind the bar that makes the narrow room feel slightly more spacious. The cocktail menu runs about 20 drinks, mixing classics with seasonal originals that change every few months. The bartenders are a consistent strength: they remember regulars, engage with newcomers, and take visible pride in their work. A small food menu covers bar snacks and a few heartier items. The bar draws a local crowd of creative professionals, students from nearby universities, and residents of the Rubinshteyna neighborhood who use it as their default drinking spot. It's the kind of place where the bartender starts making your drink when they see you walk in.

Full Review

Mishka Bar is the kind of venue that doesn't make international best-bar lists but wins the more important award: local loyalty. People who live near Rubinshteyna come here twice a week, and the bartenders know what they drink. That relationship between bar and customer creates an atmosphere that no amount of interior design can manufacture.

The cocktails are well-made without being showy. The bartenders trained at some of Saint Petersburg's better bars and brought their skills to a neighborhood setting. A classic daiquiri arrives balanced and properly cold. Seasonal specials show creativity; a winter menu featuring pine-infused vodka and cranberry was simple, seasonal, and perfectly Russian. Prices are on the lower end for cocktail bars on Rubinshteyna, making it an easy choice for a multi-drink evening.

The space is small, which is both its charm and its limitation. Thirty seats fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, and the bar transitions from cozy to crowded. The brick walls and low ceiling concentrate sound, making conversation challenging at peak hours. Weekday visits avoid this entirely and let you experience Mishka at its best.

Compared to El Copitas a few doors down, Mishka is more relaxed, more affordable, and more accessible. El Copitas is where you go for a world-class cocktail experience; Mishka is where you go for a great drink in a great bar. They're complementary rather than competitive. Against Produkty across the street, Mishka is quieter, more cocktail-focused, and better for small groups.

The Fontanka end location means you're slightly removed from the busiest part of Rubinshteyna. This is an advantage: you get the street's quality without its worst crowds. Walking to the Nevsky end for other venues takes three minutes.

The Neighborhood

Near the Fontanka River end of Rubinshteyna, where the street is quieter and the bars are more neighborhood-focused. The Fontanka embankment is a pleasant walk during White Nights. The denser Rubinshteyna bar cluster is a 2-minute walk toward Nevsky.

Getting There

Dostoevskaya metro (orange line) is about 7 minutes on foot. From Nevsky Prospekt, turn south on Rubinshteyna and walk toward the Fontanka. The bar is at number 38, near the river end.
